ifpi is private lobbying organization. that “watch list”, from what i have gathered, is basically public shaming, it has no enforceable legal status whatsoever.

    Revelant:

“I think there’s a lot of fear in traditional institutions… Nobody understands why one of their boys would do this really weird thing. What has the Internet done to these people? What is it doing to their own children? See, that’s the thing. If you’re part of traditional power right now, this thing that’s spreading over the earth, that’s changing everything… If you were the MPAA a few years ago, or the RIAA, this Internet changed everything it touched into this weird thing, and it was like the Borg, or the zombie apocalypse. And if you wonder why they fight so hard, why they chase the Snowdens and try to shut down The Pirate Bay so much more than traditional criminals, it’s because it looks so much like the zombie, and possibly media apocalypse—and we already have their children.”

I wanted to listen to one specific song. I searched for it on Metrolist, selected the top result and the app notified me that due to age restrictions in my country I would have to log in or sign up to listen to it. I mean, why can’t the public library in my neighborhood stream music then? I have a library card in my wallet with my picture, name and address on it. Why do I have to pay for streaming services? Back in the day a copy of your book had to be available at the main national library. By analogy a copy of your media content should be available for viewing and borrowing. Sorry for the rant.

Youtube itself has a download button I thought. I haven’t tried it since you have to be logged in to use it.

I remember that concert venues used to go absolutely berserk about people recording concerts, whether by video or audio. The Grateful Dead were a well known exception since they allowed audio recording, but they still prohibited video recording. There was a famous movie “Diva” about a guy who snuck a portable Nagra reel-to-reel audio tape recorder into opera performances to get bootleg recordings of a famous opera singer.

Today though, there are fancam vids of every concert uploaded to youtube immediately after the concert, or even livestreams during it. IDK what changed but I doubt it’s damaging the concert industry. Ticketmaster on the other hand is destroying the industry.

it downloads to the app’s internal storage for offline viewing, not a file you can backup (though root might allow that)

Interesting. I was pretty sure I had seen that in the desktop web client. I don’t use the mobile app. Oh well, shrug, thanks.

Can I just say that an audience full of wankers filming the concert on their phone, bright screens invariably blocking your view, so they can upload their shitty video almost no one will ever watch on youtube, does absolutely ruin the concert going experience.

Good point about the annoying screens. I watch the videos sometimes but given that they’re allowed, the bands themselves might as well post them.

It does have a download button in the Android app, but tapping it tells you to get YouTube Premium.

Oh, I’m not asking how to download videos. I use Seal. I’m just pointing out that what OP said is true. There is a download button in the native YouTube app. (And, for the record, I don’t need an alternate YouTube app, either. I already have an alternate.)

I don’t have any extension like that. There’s a button. Idk what it does though.

Added: maybe I’m confused, I see a “Save” button now but I had remembered “download”. Perhaps I equated the terms.
