Enough time has passed that the 1st episode from season 4 of Strange New Worlds is now open for memery goodness. Episode 2 “The Griffin Incident” on the 30th, just in time for Hallow Hemmer-ween!

TNG s6e16 “Starship Mine” aka “Star Trek Does a Die Hard” and SNW s4e1 “Valles Marineris”

Edit: Season 6 of TNG, not 7

Because to be a Captain you have balance when it’s time to be serious and when it’s time to horse around.

Well theyre not gonna ride their subordinates 🤷‍♂️

At least Sisko and Janeway had good old fashioned working class hobbies (baseball and coffee)

I’d bet dollars to donuts you could trace horseback riding recurring throughout the series to DeForest Kelley. DeForest was a well established actor in the Western genre before his role in Star Trek. And at a certain point he was getting screwed on the royalties of the Star Trek films, so William and Leonard pushed to get him a producer credit on the next film. That film also had a camping in wilderness tribute to DeForest at the beginning. I think the first horse scenes were Kirk and then Kirk and Picard.

While I don’t doubt Kelly’s influence further down the line, credits to navy beans horses were a passion of Gene’s from the get go.

Not to mention, Bones wasn’t in “The Cage.”

if an engineer was even remotely clever, it would be a trivial, if tedious matter to replicate entire starships. there’s absolutely no reason that the Enterprise or any other SF ship could use replication technology to regenerate the same way borg cubes do.

Even ignoring that application, you could still build a replication platform in space and just nudge things out of the build envelope for an infinite-z type set up, building off the end. at which point you would only be constrained by physical material limits, supplying the energy/matter necessary; and the X-Y size of the build envelope. and lets be clear, there’s no reason they can’t ‘tile’ the envelope to expand that as necessary. As for the resources necessary, park an asteroid off the other face of the platform and convert that to energy to power and supply the fabrication station.

Replicators are one of the things they never really thought all they way through. it was a TNG-era answer to explain away some tedium. but seriously. Imagine a federation ship equipped with a quantum singularity core instead of relying on antimatter. Voyager would have been trivial. Even if you don’t want to power your ship with a blackhole, you could use some inert super-dense material to store the energy as mass, and that energy density would likely be way better than the antimater/matter reactors.

except romulans still need to feed the black hole with some kind of material, so its not a true blackhole that can be used to generate power indefinitely, like in stargate. apparently thier power source is less efficient than federation warp cores.

He also rides a horse in the first episode, when he’d first retired and had a scraggly beard.

Edit: Pike’s love of horses was established in the first pilot during one of the illusion scenes.

Clearly no one here is familiar with the last phase of Klingon mating rituals, in which you saddle your dominated mate and ride them into battle as a final declaration of your vows. After the battle is won and the vows consummated, one of the pair heads back into battle, while the other lovingly cares for the saddle as a symbol of their eternal blood bond.

Clearly Picard is caring for Worf’s saddle, but who’s the mystery warrior in Pike’s life?

If Brave Worlds… Or Strange World’s is set in TOS times, the walls should really be greenish with rainbow lighting. That set they’re on looks anachronistic, and a little CGI.
