It’s mostly bloodworm sludge anyway.
I’m just this crystalline entity, y’know?

41·1 day ago— Hey, you know how other shows make sequels to really great, memorable episodes?
— …yeah?
— I know how we can subvert that:

1·5 days agoi honestly don’t remember the eating aliens bit. sounds weird.
Wasn’t it heavily implied that they (or at least Edward) were eating Tribbles? If I imagined it I think I might have to go to therapy.
Either way, at this point I’ll be happy with any Trek based show that commits to its own premise and telling some good stories within that framework. This time last year I didn’t think that was too much to ask, but now 🤷

2·5 days agoI’m not gonna lie, that Vulcan salute oven mitt is top of my wish list now 🤩
But more generally, I feel the same way. I’ve enoyed most of what we’ve got since 2017, warts and all. It’s many years ago that I was last excited about a Trek movie, though, especially if it meant there wasn’t any new TV series being made.
I’ve never really had any illusions about the companies behind the franchise, but current Paramount… Ugh! Of course I’ve been aware of the anti-woke campaigning, but I’d never imagined it would actually creep into management.
It’s sort of hard to imagine any future show preserving real Trek humanism if the chuds are in charge now.

1·5 days agoI had issues with “The trouble with Edward”; specifically the part about … eating aliens. Maybe it felt a little too much like something Earth people might actually do.
But generally speaking, Short treks had some genuinely good, fresh ideas. The one with Una and Spock stuck in a turbolift genuinely had me excited for SNW. Unfortunately, the singing peaked in the short version.

3·5 days agoYeah, the “interesting times” part is certainly true. More drama and intrigue on the top floor than on screen makes for unsurprisingly poor TV.

61·13 days agoSomething rotten at the core of Starfleet? Surely not…! 🤣
It’s an old chestnut, and well overdone by now, but the real question is whether they can give it a new spin, or simply make it work better than, say, in “Into darkness”.
At least they’re not pulling known characters out of mothballs for this, so I remain optimistic.

4·15 days agoDifference is, there were straightfaced Star trek series airing when Lower Decks started. Now, the only show running (well, there’s Academy as well) is doing high camp every week.

3·15 days agoBut they definitely do a lot of genre play, and recent interviews with the showrunners indicate that it’s completely intentional, and unlikely to change any time soon.
It’s certainly intentional, I just wish they’d keep their hands on the wheel instead of following every inane impulse that crosses their mind.
As for changing, well — the show is going to end after next season, so there’s a very definite change.

13·15 days agoPerhaps, if every other episode wasn’t already a gimmick genre swap. Trelane and/or Q worked fine in plain science fiction where they were the wacky trickster element in and of themselves.
I’d really prefer this show to take a chill pill and focus on telling solid stories rather than doing cleverpants narrative gymnastics.
