That’s totally true as well.

Would it have anything to do with police officers having training and tools that are specifically used to avoid injury and death?
It would be like saying swimming in a kiddie pool is more dangerous than scuba diving, because every year 400 kids drown in their backyard and only 80 scuba divers die per year.
Obviously scuba diving is more dangerous on paper, but those who partake in that activity have equipment and training specifically to not die.

I wish there were craft sodas so that everyone would call Coke and Pepsi horse piss.
Back to videogame addiction it is boys!
Yeah. I firmly believe it will be a hurdle the human race cannot overcome. Technology advances faster than our own maturity. If you gave a room full of 4 year olds loaded guns, how long would they last in there?
That is us with the internet.
We were not prepared, as a species, for a device that let us come up with any opinion at all and find validation for it.
It used to be that when you had an opinion that was wrong, you’d say it out loud a number of times, and you’d notice that everyone around you would call you an imbecile and ridicule you. It would make you reassess yourself and grow as a person.
Now that societal failsafe is gone. Now people just aren’t challenged for holding the wrong opinion.
That was an integral part of growing up and maturing. We don’t have a solution for it.
Most people don’t use an ad blocker and most people don’t even know this drama exists.

Gaming@beehaw.org•The Main Lesson From ‘Baldur’s Gate 3’ Should Be ‘People Hate Microtransactions’
1·2 years agoThe job of the AAA gaming company is to make money, not good games.
For the same reason McDonalds is never going to serve filet mignon, big gaming companies are never going to release feature-compete passion projects.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What simple changes should people do in their lives to make a positive impact on climate change?
01·2 years agoNah sorry. We are past that. Every company that provides good, affordable products causes more damage to the environment than we ever will.
We depend on elected officials to prevent this problem for us. We have organizations who’s specific job is to do this for us. See But now they are all in the pocket of the polluters.
We lost. It’s over. It’s never going back. Just enjoy your life while you’re here. Humans are shit. Have a drink and go to bed.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What would sell better if people knew about it?
0·2 years agoBidet attachments for your toilet are about $30 and you can install it yourself with zero skills in 30 minutes.
Wouldn’t you pay $30 to never have to wipe shit again? Just dry off and that’s it. Greatest thing imaginable.

Free and Open Source Software@beehaw.org•How can I share an event as easily as possible only through a URL? Ideally, they just click and their calendar app adds the event. Second best is downloading an .ics file. Who hosts such a service?
1·2 years agoHave you tried the .ics download method?
I thought that the OS would see the ics file and automatically know to open your calendar app to deal with it.

I don’t use Facebook so I don’t know -
Why can’t you just have a group text with your family.
