retrocomputing@lemmy.sdf.org•Repairing a [SCAT386SX] motherboard with a subtle intermittent fault
2·11 months agoFirst of all, nice work.
But you have to admit, the 386SX is the least cool CPU of that time period ;)

New Communities@lemmy.world•New Harry Potter Themed CommunitiesEnglish
51·11 months agoThat’s totally ok. I know there are critiques of that, but by and large I don’t agree with them.
It’s just that thinking about Harry Potter stuff makes me think of the wicked witch of the TERFs, and that makes me sad. And angry.
And I need to save my anger for other stuff right now.

154·11 months agoIt’s not a very popular topic on Lemmy
Yeah. There are a lot of trans and queer users around here, and anything to do with the High Transphobe of TERF Island is bound to get a bit of the cold shoulder.
And rightly so.
Basically, “who’s going to be the first famous person to kick the bucket in the new year”
There’s “creepy and offputting” and then there’s this question.

Tea@feddit.uk•'It’s an old person's drink.' Is Britain's love for tea cooling off?
13·1 year agoYeah, true. But that won’t stop the media blaming us for killing shit we can’t afford.
We’re old, but we’re still poor. Coming of age during a once-a-century recession followed by crippling austerity measures does that to a generation.

Today I Learned@lemmy.world•Bretton Woods System & PetrodollarEnglish
131·1 year agoIt’s gonna be a double whammy. Global oil demand is going to go down, and dollar payments will be a diminishing share of that.
But it won’t happen overnight. Unless of course something really big happens in the next 4 years that makes holding dollars a liability.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Where does porn addiction awareness stop and conservatism begins?
131·1 year agoBoth notions are pretty far out there tbh. There is nothing wrong with ethically produced pornography.

Python@programming.dev•Python Big O: the time complexities of different data structures in Python
6·1 year agoAnd thank god for that. Theoretical computer science is still good ;)
Windows is just the micro kernel running the actual operating system: Firefox.
The response at PyCon and EuroPython was pretty favorable, and a lot of core devs seem into it. This is definitely gonna happen unless something big comes up.
There was still a bit of discussion about the exact form (3.26 vs 3.2026 etc), but that is handled and I expect it to be on the standards track soon.
Next year. It’s a yearly release cadence.
Also, 3.14 will be the last one in this version numbering scheme. The one after that will be 3.26.

8·2 years agoIt’s less bad than I expected, but I am worried about the trend. If you check it the article you see there’s a graph in absolute numbers, and the absolute emissions for the top two brackets seem to be increasing while all the others are decreasing.
