4·3 months agoWhen I did it recently the hardware (w encrypted data) went through a checked bag inspection but it didn’t really affect anything else. I’m not sure that other countries’ security apparatus is going to threaten people to vacuum up their data like the usa, and in leaving the usa you typically don’t deal with usa customs inspection
I took it with me directly to avoid paying for a big estate transfer service and import tax that would otherwise be assessed by default on a normal shipment
The developers’ response to the threads bringing this up with them were absolutely abysmal. They wouldn’t even answer the question “does e send data to third parties when this feature is turned off” directly

4·4 months agoYeah, I’m all for anonymity but the quality of the article is so poor it’s like it was published or boosted to undermine the position than actually promote it
The problem is that this rule gives a member’s judges direct power over another member’s courts and there’s no clear recourse against members that use this power to violate human rights in ways the member’s citizens would normally be protected from
