Tbh, I’m super happy with the performance I’m getting. I did dig through my bios and found an old OC to 4.7 GHz that got me a few extra FPS on the low side.

I’m playing on my TV right now. My monitors are also over a decade old. I couldn’t run faster than 60 FPS right now even if I wanted to lol but I appreciate the thought.

But aside from ray tracing being off, I’m running 1080p at ultra settings perfectly fine. I’m just super stoked my ancient CPU can still run newer/more intense titles. It’s like being around in 2010 using a CPU from 1999. If you were using a Celeron that went in a slot, you probably weren’t running Windows 7, let alone Crysis lol

I actually dug in my BIOS and found a very old profile that I saved. So now I’m running at 4.7 GHz. I forgot I saved that. It does make her toasty though. But hey, who cares? These aren’t rare. Replacement cost is 50-70 bucks. Suppose I can swing that if I roast it to death lol

I mght have to play with RAM speeds. I unlocked the frame rate and was hitting 110 max. My TV only runs at 60 Hz so that’s where I’m leaving it. Still, the minimum was up to like 53 from 48. So it was still worth it.

I guess I didn’t get it across that I do already run Debian lol I love my Debian. It’s outdated, as is my '97 Honda. But like my '97 Honda, it just works every time. And I do use KDE. :) Ran GNOME for a long time and finally made the jump earlier this year. My customizations make it look and feel a lot like GNOME (because I really liked GNOME a lot), but with extra customizations that GNOME just wouldn’t let me do ootb. I like it so much. It doesn’t feel like Mac. It doesn’t feel like Windows. It’s totally its own thing. I love that.

My bad that it didn’t get across that I do use Debian lol I have been for a while now. I don’t mind dealing with outdated packages because it’s stable. Would a more up-to-date distro be more or less stable? I don’t know enough to comment on it, but with the stability issues I experienced in Windows (unrelated to the oc), I really wanted something that I could throw on there and leave alone for a few years.

I also drive a car from the 90s and I look at any IoT device with contempt. The refrigerator stays off my network.

But yeah, with the Win 10 EOL coming up, I wasn’t gonna upgrade because my machine really still does everything I want it to do. This was a bit more of a shit post. My PC didn’t hit 60 FPS in a game that it doesn’t even meet minimum spec for. Iirc, Cyberpunk requires at least a 7700K. Wasn’t looking for advice. Just messing around. ;)

The most I use my PC for outside of gaming is surfing the web, spreadsheets, and hosting files. Nice to have my own collection of movies to stream when the Internet goes down lol

I’m not implying that my PC running Debian is twice as fast as it was on Windows. I just really appreciate two things about it: 1) This CPU is still fast enough for what I want from it a decade later, and 2) That Linux was so much easier to learn than I ever anticipated. I guess it helps that I ran Ubuntu on various laptops for a decade before moving my gaming PC to a Linux distro.

Blue has always been a favorite of mine, but purple has really grown on me lately. Naturally, I love bluish purples.

Once you figure out that purple doesn’t actually exist it’s even neater. Purple and magenta are colors your brain makes up when it sees red and blue light at the same time.

I listened to his address. He listed off some 19 items where they slashed the so-called “waste, fraud, and abuse.” The first thing was like 22 billion and the next eighteen added up to another 2.5 billion. So all in, they saved 24.5 billion.

Trump’s requested 2018 budget (pre-pandemic, pre-inflation spike) was 4.094 trillion. Adjusted for inflation, it’d be 5.247 trillion today, which means they’ve saved basically nothing.

Well, 0.47% to be more precise. Another way of putting it, if the government was spending $100.00 in 2018, now it’s spending $99.53. And if most people saw a thing that costs $99.53, they’re probably gonna tell you, “That thing’s a hundred bucks.”

Meanwhile, a dozen of the bottom shelf eggs I bought this morning cost me six dollars. Four weeks ago, these were $1.89. My favorite brand isn’t even available anymore. Also, the store limits you to two cartons at a time. They do sell packages up to five dozen, though. Those cost $42. And yes, that is a worse deal. Much worse. But if you need 60 eggs at once, that’s probably how you’re go about it.

Not to mention the planes falling out of the sky right now. But at least I still have my freedom, I guess?

I bought this can opener after watching a Technology Connections video, and I kinda love my can opener.

My laptop doesn’t have dust filters, but the fan almost never runs anyway. Like the heatsink is way overbuilt for the CPU it’s attached to. It’s actually quite nice. I’ve never seen it hit 70 degrees. I’ve cleaned it maybe three times since 2016. It really only spins the fan up when I’m watching 60 fps YouTube videos or playing games. And even then, it kicks hard for a very short time and shuts off again.

And again, I bought this thing nine years ago. It’s just a little Acer. And it’s not even a nice one. I paid like 500 bucks for this thing.

Now, my wife’s MacBook that she games on…yeah, I need to figure out how to get the back off so it can get a proper dusting. Fuck you, Apple. Let me work on my stuff, dammit.

And as a multi-monitor user, I’m finding that part to be true. I’ve got my panels set up on each of my monitors exactly the way I want. Plus, controlling the wallpaper independently on each monitor as a built-in feature is dope.

I’m 32 so I was a kid in the 2000s. XP represents a golden age of the Internet to me. A time when every YouTube channel looked different and any random MySpace profile you ended up on was probably playing MCR. Before you had to sell practically every scrap of info about yourself to use nearly any service, and Google wasn’t visibly evil. Ads were mostly “Your friend’s IQ was 44. Can you beat that??” because all the world’s authoritarians were too old to care about the web. You could pretty reliably know you were talking to a person in a chat room, and you didn’t have to do some kind of mental calculus to determine whether it was a bot trying to rob your grandma of all her money in Google Play cards. Pretty well no kid in the 2000s is safe these days. I’m sure most of us said the racial slur or the mental slur or had sexual relations with everyone’s mother after getting shot in Halo. I’m safe. We never had Xbox Live lol But I played a lot of split screen Halo in the living room. Good, innocent times.

Rose tinted glasses and all that, but idk, I feel like we’ll never achieve that again. Everyone was throwing everything at the wall and seeing what stuck. And the tech was kind of in a Goldilocks zone. Just powerful enough to be cool and exciting, but not so powerful that it gets scary.

Except for those damn PS2s being used for nuclear bomb guidance.

And that’s fine. I said I really liked gnome. The only extensions I had were weather in the top bar and dash to dock. I just wanted it to do a few extra things, and I wanted to play around with widgets. Gnome was also a bit too rigid for my taste. Plasma makes tweaking small things a joy.

For me, ootb Plasma felt too much like Windows. I use Windows all day at work so I want my home machines to look and feel completely unlike Windows.
