Still. Seems like a pretty weird way to enforce that. Why do all the authoritarianism when the obvious answer would be to weigh your coinage?

I mean, I get it, but also, there is less than zero evidence of these machines not being used for that … … (yes yes, I know, proving a negative, yadda yadda, the point is it’s a silly superstitious concern!)

Is this why it is “illegal” to “deface currency”, despite every zoo/museum having a penny crushing machine?
(yes yes, I know, americentric, but the UK and US have a tight history most US-first clowns refuse to acknowledge)

9·5 days agoThe thing about Doom is that it’s not even 3D graphics. There are many shortcuts in its engine that make it utterly fake 3D.
Why that is important is that actual 3D math is WAY more computationally expensive than the many shortcuts programmed into Doom (and many other game engines of the era, like Duke 3D).
That’s the only reason Doom has shown up on so many devices… because it looks more complicated than it is.
… though with how powerful <1W chips are getting these days, you bet your ass you’ll see more advanced games showing up in more and more weird places. Much like the recent bout of PS1 games showing up everywhere.
For perspective on the other end, just look at how powerful flagship phone chips are. They can easily out-render even PS3 graphics while drawing less than 10W of power. Even current chips shit all over a Switch 2 in performance. (same as the original Switch at the time)
… Too bad nVidia (and to a lesser degree the Huang/Su family in entirety) are hellbent on destroying consumer products…

113·11 days agoNo, it’s because the US government works for corporations and always has.
Trucks have gotten bigger because of a concerted effort to manipulate the market by automakers for over 50 years. It started with the Chicken Tax.
Not everyone that wants a truck is dumb enough to want a big one, even in the US.

9·11 days agoNot quite. There has been a systemic push to grow the size of US vehicles. Why can you not find ANY small trucks? It’s NOT because every American that wants a truck wants a big one.
This isn’t a conspiracy in the loonie sense. It’s completely true, though it was a conspiracy to manipulate the market, which succeeded. It started with the Chicken Tax.
So… what you’re saying is the capitalists have never been trustworthy or deserving of respect at any point in history!?
