  • Unlike say Google? Why is there an expectation that a group working completely against some of the most powerful actors on the planet, openly, against the grain of mainstream society often and having to bear that responsibility would be charming, at ease?

I cannot even begin to imagine the mental stress from constantly having to think ahead, in a global David and Goliath, in a maze designed to get you to give up. I probably have half the issues the GOS team does and I can’t claim it’s for doing anything on the scale of what they are.

  • Sleep soundly, for a while. 10 years ago it wouldn’t have even been worth joking about. Then you look at what car companies have done in the last decade, what Google and Apple have done, what Musk and Thiel have been doing just in the last 11 months, what Amazon and Ring have done, what police forces and Flock have been doing the last few years, what ICE is doing, you’re fooling yourself if you think there are upper limits on the desire for control.

It could probably be obtained much for easily with verified biometricID to enter/purchase something, which could be done much more simply than the shit plot above.

  • Is there anything to stop the next Shitantir(Palantir) from lobbying and then having this embedded into construction code, etc.? Look at all these small towns waking up to find ICE is accessing their traffic cameras and so are vigilante Texas sheriff’s who don’t think women should have abortions…the point being if it can be done, and the wrong people are in power and those systems are designed to be edit the wealthy and powerful, it is just a matter of doing nothing and it will happen.

  • You’ll note they always use “average”(mean) rather than median savings/assets to mask that it’s really a small portion of boomers that are living the easy life. Still better off as a whole than later gens but to your point, no warfare but class warfare. I read a recent book , “work, retire, repeat” looking at the life crisis that has been built with insecurity and poverty driving most people, regardless of age to work too much and work until they die. Your point is the best one; billionaires and their lobbyists and owned politicians are the real problem.

There are many boomers with nothing, who did not have or get a pension, who didn’t or couldn’t accumulate wealth through housing, who may not have gone to college because (and the article leaves this out) they didn’t even need a degree to move up. The book mentioned above calls out that only 8% of people working past 62 are doing it because they really want to be and have a job they enjoy. Many are still working for healthcare, to service debt, concerns of future unknown/instability/inflation, social security being threatened, and also it notes they many keep working because they have kids or other dependents they see struggling in a tougher world and want to help/ensure they aren’t another burden.

I’m not a boomer or discounting the relative advantages they had, but it’s the concentration of wealth to the owner class/.5% that are by far the issue not an age group.

  • The analytics are overblown, and coaches need to get back to the big picture. Stanford traded Hollins at the deadline for Wu, but picked up the player option on Candell for the 4th year. The performance bonus if they make the all-star team should provide enough motivation to ensure they don’t get saddled with a mid-career ball hog. Team chemistry will be key, hopefully during the preseason they can get it together and not have any niggling injuries interrupt. There is concern about the defensive strategy on set plays, their specialist Franco just had their contract waived and stretched under the current contract, so the team may look to the transfer market mid season when it opens, or potentially to move up in the spring draft to fill needs. Still can’t believe they traded Simpson and pay 2.7 per year for Johnson.

Universities run by MBAs and academics operating like sports franchises.Meanwhile, they’re arresting students in campus for protesting genocide and fascism.

    Seems legit.

  • I’ve never been in a single accident and drive a basic compact sedan I bought new off the lot 10 years ago. I could buy it used today, with current mileage for about the same price I paid new. I’ve paid about half the initial purchase price in insurance premiums.

Being a good driver sucks, but it’s kind of like healthcare where…wait a minute I’m healthy and getting fucked there too. As I age I’m going to street race and try to gain as much weight as I can.

  • You are being unduly negative. If the public school system is torn down, the next generations can be schooled by Edutech, an industry with interesting lobbying connections to anti-tax think-tanks, but nevermind that. Edutech will make sure your children are prepared to solve all of life’s questions and needs with Chet AI. Chet will help them realize their dreams of working in a retail job for minimum wage without any worker protections thanks to the DOL being replaced by Chet AI as well. Chet will help make sure Everyonetm gets important information like where, how and for whom to vote.

  • I’m with you, follow the intention of the bill and don’t accept a crap deal. A “phase in” will not make sense when currency is being devalued at a rate like it is now; US currency has dropped 11% since Jan against other major currencies–and that’s before you factor in much of the tarrifs haven’t even started hitting consumers since many importers stockpiled in q1-2.

If I were super devious and wanted to play things the way Republicans do, I’d let this go through and not even fight it and laugh all the way to the bank with locked in rate “increases” that will be far below inflation for the next 5 years.

I get it, it’s better than their current min, but pretending it’s the solution it was 15 years ago when unions launched the Fight for 15 and $15 actually would have helped in most geographies, is capitulation and sets Dems up to fail if they actually want to win against oligarchs.
