That does sound pretty jank for other reasons but those post jacks being installed long term are incredibly common around here, and yeah they’re only supposed to be for temporary use. I’m more surprised when I walk into a house that doesn’t have them. My house has them and if you look at the floor joists I’d be scared what would happen if you spun them down haha, the joists are all bent and there’s a slight warp in the floor in the portion that don’t have them. It’s a 135 year old home so I’m not really worried about it.

I’ve never opened a port for Plex.

That’s a far cry from how most people watch movies and TV though. Most everyone I know uses it through some sort of app on a device in their living room, like a smart TV, fire stick, game console, whatever.

How well does remote viewing work on jellyfin? I have a lot of friends and family that use my Plex, I’ve also had a lifetime pass for pushing a decade.

Like how easy is it to send an invite and the person be rolling with no technical setup from me? I just sent a Plex invite last week to my friend’s brother who did some plumbing work on my house, dunno if I’ll even ever see that dude again haha. I’m certainly not goin over to his house to set something up.

Or my dad struggles enough with it as it is, he’s 70 next year so I get it. But that might be more of a problem with the Plex app on his ancient smart TV.

This is a big reason I stick with Plex.

I’ve poked around on FMHY and most of the direct download sites are total garbage banner ads everywhere and popup galore with slow ass download speeds. Even the big public trackers like 1337x are whack in this regard. Yes obviously use an adblocker which takes care of that problem but if the ~average user goes at this blind they’re gonna end up on some random ass sites from misclicks or get redirected or at best wait way too long for a download or it’s in parts of an archive and they have to wait til tomorrow for another download etc etc.

I saw a dog sitting in the middle of a busy road. Clearly wasn’t a stray, but just lost and confused and all the cars were just driving around it. I got out and lead it to the sidewalk, but my car is still just sitting idle at the intersection. Cue people honking at me to move, because of course. Some drove around me. Finally one dude hops out, tells me to move my car while he holds the dog, then I do the same for him.

The dog has no collar or tags and at this point we’re like well idk what to do now because this is clearly someone’s dog. We poked around a little bit, then call the cops for them to deal with it. Cops show up, say they can take it to the pound to see if it has a chip. We’re literally all picking up this big 80 pound dog into the back of a cop car when a lady comes running down this big hill and is like “that’s my dog”

Fuck no. I’m an electrician and wouldn’t do that. A nick could be under that birds nest and you’d never see it. Call the utility company. They’ll take care of this.

I didn’t go with speed queen because they’re nearly double the price of all other washer/dryers. I know they’re built like tanks and don’t really fail, or if they do they’re easy to fix. But I’ve also heard they can be tougher on clothes and wear them out quicker.

Ultimately ended up going with Maytag. It’s been solid for the past 6 months, no issues at all and I got a free 5 year warranty from the small local appliance store I bought it in, so maybe check them out opposed to the big box stores. They fix it if there are problems, not Maytag.

Also look for one with a “deep fill” option. All new washers have a federal requirement now that makes them “high efficiency” which really is just using way less water and spraying them for an hour. Whether this fully washes your clothes is a bit of a debate, but I guess that’s how most are in Europe now. The “deep fill” option is supposed to be if you’re washing bed sheets or very soiled clothes, but I still use it to soak my clothes.

My city only has the bus, which is super unreliable and the times might as well not exist half the time, or what happened to me recently was they changed stops for a route and Google maps never updated. It’s typical to wait for an hour for a bus, sometimes they zoom right past you, or you need to transfer between lines. They’re also planning on cutting 35% of bus lines next year, raising the fare, and stopping service at 11 pm, all due to lack of funding. You can read more here:

There is a train, but it only goes to the suburbs outside of the city. The bus is your only option when you’re in city limits.

I would take some more confusing steps over there not being an option at all.
