2·5 days agoI own a few raspberry pis, and sure they are neat, but I don’t think people get that passionate about them. It’s just a little slow computer.
If you have weed, hot peppers, and carnivorous plants, can I come over?
Normal plants are great too, but clearly you are a person of taste.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Lemmings over 30 who try to stay active, what are you doing to accommodate for your incredibly decrepit bodies to avoid boo-boos?
8·27 days agoI still lift weights, although now it is more about staying toned than getting huge gains. I also try to do cardio at least twice a week.
Injuries are harder to recover from so if something starts to hurt in a bad way I stop and do something else.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What could I do about a very noisy coworker?
2·2 months agoI have some earplugs I carry on my keyring that I originally bought for concerts. I don’t know if you can wear something like that or noise cancelling headphones, but that might help on occasion.
Whistling is where I’d draw the line though. That would make me the crazy person that would confront him directly. If he isnt receptive to knocking it off I would escalate to my boss or get hr back in the mix.

Linux@lemmy.ml•I found the easiest way to transfer files to and from my Linux PC - and it's so fast [ZDNET]
6·2 months agoI just install openssh server, because I need it anyways, and use an SFTP client to transfer files. Seems to be fast, secure, and easy. No new ports to open up.
I’ve transferred many terabytes of data this way, no complaints. Rsync is nice for syncing huge folders, and walking away, so I’ll also use that when the need arises.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How many hours spent on video games is an addiction??
12·2 months agoIt isn’t a specific number of hours.
Addiction is a neuropsychological disorder characterized by a persistent and intense urge to use a drug or engage in a behavior that produces natural reward, despite substantial harm and other negative consequences.
If it feels harmful seek help. If not, have fun.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•"Pretend" there are no required qualifications or legal and ethical restrictions to becoming the president of the US, who would you like to see in office?
2·2 months agoI like Mamdani – he is well spoken and passionate about helping people. Jon Stewart would do a good job, but I don’t know if we need more celebrities.
I used windows 10 on my gaming PC for many years. I “upgraded” to 11, and it felt bad. The UI/ux was tolerable, but between the AI features and everything requiring a Microsoft account, it got on my nerves quickly.
I literally just wanted to upgrade the firmware on my Xbox one controller (so it’d work in Linux…) and that forced a login. At that point I logged in, upgraded my controller, formatted as ext4, and now I rarely look back.
Every once in a while a game will crash or not be playable on Linux, but I’d trade that for being in control of the hardware I’ve spent thousands on over the years.
Very happy with bazzite on my htpc and a kde based distro on my main computer. I pop over to my MacBook for casual computing, but for the real stuff I’ll never use windows again (barring being forced by future employers)
The standard move is a glass storm door.

that’s awesome! I’m glad it is helping you ease your pain. It helps a lot with my anxiety and sleeping, but I’m a weirdo and I’m in my head a lot, so even if I’m super deep it doesn’t shut off that part of my brain.
I do imagine if I was being boiled alive it would still hurt a lot, but I’d prefer to be on some strong edibles if that “had” to happen.
I have experimented on myself quite a bit with THC. It isn’t a pain reliever in my experience. I have had a headache or body pain, used some, and then I was just like “fuck, that’s all I can think about now.”
It’s great to distract from general malaise or boredom, but won’t help if anything painful is actually happening.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•If a YouTube video is watched using a frontend such as Newpipe or Indivious, does it count as a view for the video? Why or why not?
1·3 months agoThey parse the website for feeds, search, etc. It is a java library and it looks like they are using jsoup to parse the dom.
Using the website and actually establishing a connection to a video are separate things. The search side of things is essentially a headless browser that is just aimlessly looking for videos. As far as YouTube is concerned nothing is played during this process.
When you decide to commit and watch a video, the NewPipe client establishes a connection to the video stream, which doesn’t count for YouTube stats.
YouTube counts a view for long-form content when a viewer watches for at least 30 seconds, while Shorts views count each time a short begins to play or replay, with no minimum watchtime. Valid views must come from human users, with limitations on how often the same person can generate views within a short timeframe to prevent fraud from bots or artificial inflation.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•If a YouTube video is watched using a frontend such as Newpipe or Indivious, does it count as a view for the video? Why or why not?
7·3 months agoUsing the API “correctly” is likely a requirement for the view to be counted. Their media extractor circumvents that by intentionally not using their API and instead parsing their website for content. Then it establishes a connection to the stream using an internal API.
If you want a view to count you need to use an official client (or at least one with a legit API key). It not counting is a feature with NewPipe.
(Google probably knows the content is being streamed, but if you could just create synthetic views with a third party project, that would be bad for YouTube stats)

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•If a YouTube video is watched using a frontend such as Newpipe or Indivious, does it count as a view for the video? Why or why not?
16·3 months agoFrom the NewPipe FAQ:
Does NewPipe use the YouTube API?
No. NewPipe does not rely on the YouTube API, as using it requires an API key bringing with it specific regulations and restrictions. YouTube would then have more options of tracking your YouTube usage at their disposal. Therefore, NewPipe Extractor gets the information by parsing YouTube websites.
