The numbers are a bit misleading here: the overall share of Linux devices has increased massively. The gain of 0.41% points is a relative 15.5% increase from 2.64% share before. Even though SteamOS has a smaller share of this larger Linux share, the overall share (of all devices) of SteamOS increased from 0.290% to 0.315%.
A major version of 0 isn’t necessarily any statement regarding the projects maturity, it can also be a hack with semantic versioning. Normally, any change that is not fully backwards compatible requires you to increment the major version, but if the major version is 0, you may only increase the minor version. Because of this, many projects stay at the 0.x.y versions, so they don’t need to release version 2.0.0, 3.0.0, 4.0.0 and so on just because of minor but breaking changes as many users might expect significant new features from that version steps.

This is technically incorrect. While the square root is both the positive and the negative solution, the sqrt (√) operator results in the principal square root. For nonnegative numbers this is the nonnegative square root and more generalised for complex numbers it’s the square root that halves the complex phase.

It was already shown that SteamOS is way better in terms of battery performance than Windows. So if Windows uses power saving mode by default, these results are even more damning:
There might be some tweaks to mitigate some of the short comings of Windows, but that doesn’t changed that the script has flipped. Before it was Linux that required tweaking and Windows would have a decent out of the box experience. Now SteamOS works great out of the Box while Windows needs tweaks. And at that point there is no reason for sticking with Windows unless your software specifically demands it.
It’s all based on a very fundamental mathematical law: if you increase the size of something, the volume increases with the third power while the surface area increases with the second power. An insect twice as large would be 8x as heavy and need 8x as much oxygen but 4x as much surface area.

Oil is good because it’s cheap and it’s only cheap because we don’t pay the full bill. If we’d bill polluters for the full cost it would take to offset the emissions, it would quickly stop being economically viable to use oil in many sectors.
Yeah, agreed. Carbon capture won’t save us, not trees nor otherwise. We have to slow down what we are doing to the planet.
The point of my comment is that if trees wouldn’t exist, they would seem like some futuristic sci-fi solution too good to be true. Just because something is shiny new tech, it isn’t automatically better. Sure, just planting trees won’t save us if we release all the carbon that is already captured in the form of fossil fuels, but how about we stop releasing all the carbon that is already captured in the form of fossil fuels?
I’ve heard there’s a practical green solution to carbon capture. The units are practically maintenance free and power themselves with solar energy. This allows to deploy them on many small patches of land. The captured carbon is stored in solid organic compounds that may be used as building materials. It may sound to sci-fi to be true, but it’s actually just trees.
That’s the beauty about open source: it isn’t beholden to the whims of anyone. If disagree with the Linux Foundation, you’re free to make your own independent fork. Others that agree with you can then start contributing to the fork. And this isn’t a purely theoretical scenario as it has happend with other open source projects before.
They did some great fan service before. In Borderlands 2, there is the NPC Michael Mamaril in Sanctuary who can randomly give out guns when talked to. That NPC is a tribute to the real Michael Mamaril, a fan that passed before Borderlands 2 was released
