should be pretty easy with imagemagick. it has libraries for most programming languages, or you can bash script something together pretty easily

do not get a pinephone as a daily driver. battery life is like an hour, and its incredibly underpowered (i say that as a fairphone 5 daily driver). i cant speak for any other linux phones as i havent used them, but i plan to make a conserted effort to switch when fdroid stops working

i like realdebrid + aria2c, but i agree
normally id say “linux is free, there’s no harm in giving it a go”, but between your lack of free time, nvidia graphics card, dependence on proprietary software, and previous experience (and slight distain) for linux i’d say just go with win 11.
there may be a way to get your music software to work in linux, but youll likely need to mess around with wine configs and it may never actualoy work right.
if you are interested ever, fire up a vm and play around with linux to get comfortable with it. maybe when win11 reaches eol (or even before) you’ll want to make the switch.
none of this is said to scare you away from linux. searching for drivers is rarely a thing in linux. there are built in tools in most distros to deal with graphics drivers, but apart from that, given the open source nature of linux, everything else is just handled by kernel modules and are basically seamless unless you have some weird proprietary hardware. linux is fairly easy to use these days, but there is quite a bit of a learning curve because it is a fundamentally different os than windows, and the way you solve problems is very different.

you did nothing wrong. ubuntu is a perfectly fine distro for beginners. the reason i dont use ubuntu anymore is the age of the packages started to bother me. also its kinda annoying that releases hit eol at some point. i like arch for the rolling release (no eol) and the fresher packages.
if ubuntu worka for you, keep using it. there is no correct distro.
or this could be young women having a glass of wine while cooking dinner?

ok, and i’ll just buy a house to build wealth like my dad suggested. and dress better than the manager if i want a job. and stop eating avocado toast.

yeah i feel you. I’m in a band, so instagram is basically a necessity for promotion and communication. getting the word out about shows, other bands will message me for gigs etc
just try to use it a little as possible, and try to lock it down as much as possible in the os. you can do alot in the android app settings.
basically treat it as you would having a conversation near a security camera.

here’s the deadspace i was noticing:
here’s a potential way to make it more compact:
the com@inst 🗨️1🔼2🔽 line could either go above or below the post (ive seen moth on lemmy clients)

oh wow, the web app looks great. always thought lemmy looked pretty bad from every desktop ui ive found

yeah i think putting the com name and the up/downvotes on the same line would fill some of the dead space between posts

just installed. looks great so far!

i don’t think anyone in this thread is saying we shouldn’t have proton, but just that it is holding back actual linux development. I for one love my steamdeck and use proton all the time.
but facts are facts, and there are less games being developed for linux because of proton.

you’re missing the point. the linux gaming market is increasing, but proton is in some ways a crutch keeping proper linux support from games because its much easier to support just one platform rather than two.

i think that’s not a great way to think about it. when is the year of the linux desktop? its a slow build until its a viable ecosystem.
if companies just stopped making linux phones, the ecosystem would wither up and die (not counting postmarketos)
every new linux phone will inspire new people to try linux on a phone, and eventually we may have a viable alternative to ios and android.
this is exactly my opinion on it. one of my main gripes was the text rendering. if i needed to change some text i basically had to redo all of the work on any shadow or stroke as well, not just correct a spelling mistake or whatever. very excited to check out the new version.
i think also the concept of “survival of the fittest” was like an alpha thing; who fought nature and won. versus fittest being more about fitting into the environment better. the best fit for the specific environment.
