Well, with that kind of CPU, I’d reccomend 32GB of RAM, as 16 feels a little weak for such a chip.

Something that surprises me is that no one mentioned just running debian 12 with lxde. Though, I don’t reccomend using the netinstall, as the user created there won’t be part of the sudo group. You should use the live iso.
Lubuntu is based on Ubuntu, which is based on Debian. It meets all of your requirements, and has never crashed on me in my 2.5 years of using it, except when running kde, but that’s probably kde’s fault.

If you don’t trust my link (fair enough, don’t click links from strangers), the iso can be downloaded by going to debian.org, clicking “other downloads” under the big “download” button, locating the live isos, in the “Try Debian live before installing” clicking “other live iso”, and finding the lxde iso.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Can you recommend a pirate minecraft launcherEnglish
33·1 year agoAlright so, TLauncher is owned by a big bad Russian company, buuuut they were a pillar of my early-ish childhood thanks to free Minecraft, so yeah, your choice.
During his beamng video on the garbage time channel, you can see he’s running ubuntu for a few seconds:

Antix linux would also work great, and DSL is based on it.
From my personal experience, ubuntu (lts or not), has a tendency of nuking itself randomly. It’s happened more than one time to me, to shit off my PC, eat something, return to a broken installation that doesn’t boot. And I’ve got plenty of experience with fedora just not doing things, like mtp, vulkan on flatpaks, I’ve had it crash on login (on x11), and had gnome apps constantly crashing (on wayland). Currently, I’m using debian, and I’ve never had any issues with it, other than outdated packages, which is relatively minor
While I’m not op, debian offers increased stability over ubuntu and fedora, and that might be enough to make someone want debian

Linux@lemmy.ml•Hey does anyone know how to get microsoft suite apps on linux?
3·2 years agoSeconding this, webapp-manager is what linux mint comes with and is the best option so far
I kinda understand you, but it would fix the issue, so it is a solution
Then you have your solution. Use x11 and be done with it

6·2 years agoAnd how would you access the controls above the app? I understand you’re most likely on kde, I used to shre the sentiment, but extending the close button to the panel would only break things
I mean, I feel that the 4mb (I assume 4gb) of ram needs a 32 bit os claim is downright untrue.
I have a Thinkpad X301 that’s been upgraded to 4gb of ram, and I run Debian 12 stable, 64bit, and performance, even on a laptop from 2008, like mine, as long as I used pale moon for browsing, was stellar. I use xfce on that laptop.
DO NOT RUN A 32BIT VERSION OF LINUX ON 64BIT HARDWARE. I looked into the celeron in the computer, and it supports 64bit instructions. Just run Debian with xfce.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•How i can play pirate games on linuxEnglish
77·2 years agoNow, hear me out. I know steamunlocked.net isn’t the best source out there, but it seems to be the only site to actually preinstall your games. What I’m trying to say is, if you download gta sa from them you just get the game folder with the game executable and you’re instantly able to just install mods without any setup. I say this because when I was in the same situation as you (i think about a year ago) , I couldn’t get past the setups for gta sa, and this just worked. However, it might be worth it to take the game from any other source, and just install using the setup on either a windows vm, or another computer. Just know I’ve personally never had an issue with the files, but about 2 years ago (I think). The host they use for the files slowed down downloads.

18·2 years agoWhat the fuck does this have to do with Linux?
There’s already a thousand comments, but I’ll give my opinion anyway. Debian is by far the most reliable distro I have ever used. It’s easier to install than arch in my opinion, and is completely rock solid. However, if you have at least a year experience with linux and you like tinkering, nothing beats arch. I don’t recommend using distros like pop_os, endevour os, or manjaro, simply because once you have a bit of experience, it just introduces more points of failure.
TLDR;Debian, or if you are experienced, arch.
