Interesting. My reasoning is that narcissistic people crave attention, which cats may not give so overtly as a dog. Basically for a dog, a person is a god and some people love that kind of relationship.

People who don’t like cats.
I’ve noticed a correlation between people who don’t like cats and having narcissistic or selfish tendencies. Could be just an impression but that’s how I feel.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is your favourite open source software that you discovered in the past year, that you can no longer live without?
2·1 year agoThere’s also Homarr for those who prefer a nice and easy frontend to install the arr suite and more.
I love zfs. Started using it for my data storage pool and now I have it on root as well. It has some rough edges but overall it is very stable and has amazing features.
This is an oversimplification of the problem. Many times a search engine returns useful results inside reddit. You’re not going there because you love reddit as a platform, but because you need something that someone posted in there.
I’ve worked extensively with both virtualbox and kvm/qemu. While I prefer kvm since it’s open source, I could never reproduce the video performance of virtualbox. I’m not even trying to game, just use regular applications that I cannot run under Linux.
I wonder if I’m missing something.

Linux@lemmy.ml•You can't cd or ls in a folder if you have no +x permissions on it. That is all. I wasted 3 hours of my life.
2·2 years agoYou can still read the contents of the directory because you have
-ron it. If you just runls fooyou’ll see your file on there, no problem. However, without
-xyou cannot read metadata in that directory. That’s why all information about the file shows as question marks.

Linux@lemmy.ml•How do y'all deal with programs not supported on Linux?
4·2 years agoHow did you manage with video performance? I don’t game and have had a lot of experience with both vbox and kvm. Kvm performance for video is excruciatingly slow. It got to a point I said “that does it” and went back to vbox.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What are your favourite things under 50$ that make your life a bit easier or more pleasant?
4·2 years agoI’ve been using NiMH batteries for a long long time now. Very few devices dislike them at this point. Some will show the “battery low” icon but keep working as they typically have much higher charges than alkalines.

112·2 years agoWut? Blue? Are you sure about that? Afaik the peak is around 555nm, yellow green. Why do you think we have “high visibility yellow” vests and not “high visibility blue?”
IIRC 555nm (or whereabouts) stimulates the L and M cones simultaneously.

Linux@lemmy.ml•20gb ram, 10gb zram, 10gb swap, default values. What should I change?
3·2 years agoOdd consideration, but… I use 16Gb of ram and I have zero swap space and I’ve never seen a freeze in the three years this system has been assembled.
You won’t see big problems until you use most of the ram, then you’re toast. Also Linux (if that’s what you’re using) prefers to have more cache at the expense of swapping out pages. There’s a lot of rarely used code on many apps that can be safely swapped out to get you more cache.

If you use an android phone, just create a separate account on your phone just with the apps you want the police to see. No email, photos, social media, or anything. This way you can switch to the restricted user before giving the cop your phone.
