Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL that cancer drug Revlimid is one of the bestselling products of all time. It cost nearly $1,000 per pill, even though that same pill cost just 25 cents to makeEnglish
331·2 days agoI think they’d justify that by saying they need to ensure the funds they need for future research on other breakthrough treatments. This is not entirely baseless, but just another nail in the coffin for why medical research shouldn’t be funded primarily through capitalist methods.
Ty - I’ll give UC a try.
Agreed, but occasionally I have to use a site that doesn’t work properly on Firefox-based browsers. I mostly use Cromite to deal with that, but want a backup in case Cromite dies like its predecessor Bromite did.
Thoughts on Vivaldi?
I dunno… “Holes” doesn’t seem like it’d be all that boring…

DeGoogle Yourself@lemmy.ml•Age-verification partner Yoti is reporting GrapheneOS users to authorities for using GrapheneOS, due to "past security concerns."
131·6 days agoThis sent me down a rabbit hole for a moment because I’d never heard of Yoti (fucking dystopian shit). A Reddit post caught my eye because it had to do with PlayStation. It’s in the r/privacy sub & turns out it had been removed by a mod for breaking their rules regarding any mention of alternative OSes.
Say what?!?
Alternative OSes are a major option for privacy. Ho my gawd, Reddit has truly turned into completely useless bullshit. Un. Fucking. Real.

Fully agreed - I’d be afraid for my sanity if I tried. Amazing work!
-
Droid-ify - much nicer F-Droid replacement front end that also works with Shizuku to automate installing updates in batches. Also supports many other repositories like izzy-On-Droid (which some of my items below may come from instead).
-
Shizuku - gives elevated powers to apps written to take advantage of it. Not quite root, but definitely helps give abilities that make life easier.
-
Kompact Image Compressor - I work with scanned documents a fair amount, and this new app has already saved me significant storage space.
-
Key Mapper - I mainly use this for emulation, but there are plenty of other uses.
-
URL Check - powerful sanitizer with the smallest footprint of those I’ve tried.
-
DropCount - my latest game addiction
-
Keyboard Switcher - sometimes I just gotta use a different input method, and this provides a consistent easy way to switch
-
Hail - group apps to freeze all in one shot with Shizuku
-
Insular - de-Googled Island app which makes working with the work profile feature easier
-
FFUpdater - keeps my collection of browsers & Thunderbird up to date automatically with Shizuku

Yeah, life’s so unfair like that.
“Perpetual_teenager” has entered the chat.
He wasn’t - he was deliberately saying something attention-grabbing so people would realize how unhealthy the typical restaurant fries are made. He knows a serving of six fries is unrealistic.
Of course, people are too closed-minded and insecure to be that honest with themselves about the facts they don’t want to hear — preferring instead to attack and ridicule others so they can overcompensate for their well-buried guilt over wanting to eat something they deep down know is very bad for them.
You ordered the “Party Size,” obviously.
Might try your local YMCA or community college for that. Then there’s always volunteering at a homeless shelter, women’s shelter, or similar if you’re up for that kind of thing (which I’d expect would require a certain fortitude to deal with the likely depressing situations people winding up at such places come from).
And the dog took over their account to post this just to show how smart he was.
I’ll be right over, thanks!
I’ve seen both, but then I’m an old geez-er.
But, seriously - since it’s usually used by religious types to stand in for saying “Jesus” because they’re afraid of “using the Lord’s name in vain” (a frequently misinterpreted concept), “Jeez” does make more sense.

Have you seen how much it costs to develop novel drugs? It’s definitely a bit excessive, but also probably not as much as you think.
