Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's a skill that's taken for granted where you live, but is often missing in people moving there from abroad?
11·2 years agoI just use my teeth and it horrifys anyone I’m with…
Jokes on them though, because I’m the one with an open beer.

Games@sh.itjust.works•New employee retention rate in Japan is 70%. Nintendo’s is 98.8%. Brand strength, the smaller number of new hires, and a strong employee welfare program a few reasons givenEnglish
8·2 years agoYou can get as good as that as standard in the UK.
I get 36 days PTO, the legal minimum is 28 days. 25% bonus. Pension contribution, I pay 4%, company pays 8%. Health insurance included, but the NHS will cover most stuff.
This isn’t even a senior level position, it’s bottom level. Seniors get way more.
I get paid 4 weekly so get 13 pays a year.
Even better if you keep schtoom about it and automate your work from home job allowing you to just chill for most of the day.
The only benefit to an automatic is being able to eat a burrito while driving.
Still doesn’t outweigh the niceness of driving a manual.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What have you witnessed or seen that would sound like a conspiracy theory if someone else told you?
105·2 years agoThis is true, they try to hide this type of activity, and if you fight it they’ll take you down too. Source: personal experience.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Have you ever been under general anesthesia? What was it like? Did anything strange happen?
6·2 years agoMy biggest fear is that you are aware of everything and can feel the pain when under, but forget it all - men in black style - to leave a relatively ok experience if not a little sick feeling.
That’s a great idea.
At 14/15 you want to fool about if you have an equally young partner and there’s nothing really criminal about it - just discovering sexuality.
14 and 30 though really does have a different ring to it and if that’s considered, then credit to the system.
Hahahah, imagine going to another country and trying to pay in another currency and being shocked they wouldn’t accept it.
I can’t even spend Scottish notes in England when it’s all Sterling, never mind trying to pay for a small shop coffee in dollars.

When I travelled to the states I was absolutely horrified to find medications for things that only a doctor should prescribe being recommend directly to consumers “Speak to your doctor about X today!”
We have ads for heartburn meds and simple painkillers, but to see immunosuppressants and diabetes treatments marketed to consumers is shocking and absolutely will drive poorer outcomes for patients as they try and force the issue with their GP without the medical beckground to understand the effecacy of that medicine.
