I was abused by my christian parents.

I would like to live long enough to see humanity mature out of superstition and free the world from human greed.

  • Sure. But don’t forget to take steps to prevent Google from harvesting your non-school data anyway. If using an official Gmail app, you’re probably screwed; they get your location, wifi, device info, why not?

If using a web browser, be sure it’s a privacy-focused one, don’t sign into anything but Gmail, and sign out and close the browser completely every time to clear cached data. And Google will still scan every email with automated scrapers, potentially training their AI on your carefully written essays, etc.

  • It’s just… “I’M OKAY!” suggests the opposite.

You act like I’m supposed to be off guarded or somehow surprised by this comment lolol

This is the defensiveness I was referring to. I guess my overall point is that a calmer tone might connect with more people.

I’m no expert, but it almost seems like you’re in fight-or-flight mode. Some of your comments come across as agitated or even hostile. A conversation might be more productive than a fight.

Would you say you have many different thoughts very rapidly? Is it noisy in your head?

  • If you have a termite infestation, you might say that they’re invasive to the house and it’s not their natural element. However you might also say that they live there, which is equally true.

But the post is about sharks in the ocean. It is their natural habitat, they live there, but because they’re sometimes inconvenient to humans, humans sometimes use the phrase “shark-infested waters”, which can be damaging because it frames disrupting the ecosystem as some kind of defensive act.

  • I also like how Jesus has two different lineages depending on which gospel you read. Apologists try to say one of them is about Mary’s parents and not Joseph’s, but the text is explicit.

Matthew 1: “Jacob begot Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus…”

Luke 3: “Jesus himself was about thirty years old when he began his ministry. He was the son, so it was thought, of Joseph, the son of Heli.”

So was Joseph’s father Jacob, or Heli?

There are many more. The bible is literally unbelievable. Chapter 2 lists a different creation order from chapter 1. Anyone claiming it contains no contradictions is drinking the kool-aid. It would be funny if people weren’t dying for it.

  • “Just give us your name, address, and more, and we’ll stop violating your privacy (on the surface). Training AI? Well, obviously. Selling to data brokers? I mean, why wouldn’t we? We’ll delete the document after we’ve stored all the details in our database, of course.”

  • How do you know the canonical catholic interpretation is correct? Because some guy said so? Even if some guy was “officially” entrusted with that task, how do we know he didn’t make mistakes?

How do we verify any of it?

How do you know islam is false? Some guy said it’s true. That’s not enough for you anymore?

What about mormonism? That guy had magic rocks. Is that any more or less ridiculous than a talking bush?
