  • A blockade can be enforced in international waters. A ship that’s heading straight towards territorial waters and doesn’t change course when hailed, can be intercepted before it enters.

If you want to actually learn about this, start reading here.

    https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/leiden-journal-of-international-law/article/use-of-force-against-neutral-ships-outside-territorial-waters/56CF204865927A59302B21DCB66D9428

The International Law Association’s Helsinki Principles on the Law of Maritime Neutrality (1998) regulate the same question in Paragraph 5.1.2, which largely overlaps with the provisions of the San Remo Manual. Subparagraph 3 allows attacking of neutral ships that ‘are believed on reasonable grounds to be carrying contraband or breaching a blockade, and after prior warning they intentionally and clearly refuse to stop, or intentionally and clearly resist visit, search, capture or diversion’.

The San Remo Manual and the Helsinki Principles both contain provisions that permit the use of force against neutral ships that are ‘believed on reasonable grounds to be … breaching a blockade’. Blockades are ‘a belligerent operation to prevent vessels and/or aircraft of all nations … from entering or exiting specified ports, airports, or coastal areas belonging to, occupied by, or under the control of an enemy nation’.Footnote 18 Blockades are indiscriminate, in that they must be ‘enforced against every vessel of every nation’

EEZ is not the same as territorial waters.

  • Looks decent enough. It will be attacked and this might also affect its success is the lack of a white blonde blue eyed European character.

    Perceived ethnic/race breakdown:

    • Caleb Mir: Human, light brown could pass for Arab, Pakistani, or mulatto
    • Jay-Den Krag: Klingon, cliché dreadlocks wearing black with a very human first name
    • Sam: Kasquian but looks human, black or mixed, big eyebrows
    • Darem Reymi: Khionian but looks human, looks Arab or Mediterranean
    • Genesis Lythe: Dar-Sha, looks human with wrinkly eyebrows, looks east Asian or mixed

All of them have dark black hair and dark brown eyes.

Granted the captain chancellor of the school is a white and blond lady.

This casting makes it easy to attack as woke and might limit its audience. Discovery always had Stamets and even redhair representation with Tilly.

A show about a military-esque academy with the values duty, honor, service should naturally appeal to conservatives. If that audience can get over the casting.

Three men, two women is a good balance. They refrained from having a token trans, genderqueer, or non-binary character, which is a good idea. Discovery didn’t handle theirs very well I think.

A character I would have loved here is an alien character that looks androgynous or female with pale skin, blue eyes, white or red hair. A platinum blonde blue eyed Vulcan ice queen would be cool to see as well.

It’s a school drama show. So there will be rival groups and cliques, which could have different ethnic compositions, ideological outlook, or style. Lots of potential there.

Overall the positive optimistic outlook of building a better future together is sorely needed at the moment. I deeply hope it can appeal across the political spectrum.

People will always find a way to kill themselves. Lots of ways to kill yourself with things in your own house.

Punishing people for attempting or committing suicide is pointless. People shouldn’t be encouraged to commit suicide. For most people the desire to do that will pass and they will find joy again in their lives. Suicide doesn’t only affect the person who dies, the people who knew them are affected mainly. The ones who lose a loved person and of course those who have to clean up the mess left behind.

Assisted suicide is a bit more complicated. People might be pressured into suicide by their family members or society so they are no longer a burden. The worst version of this is commercially available assisted suicide that makes a profit. Imagine literal „kill yourself“ advertisements offering services where they get rich the more people off themselves. Chatbots messaging depressed folks and nudging them towards suicide. There have been cults that committed ritualistic mass suicides. I don’t think these are good for society. So there needs to be pretty strict regulations around this.

A friend of mine wanted to kill himself. What stopped him was the idea that if you have nothing to live for, find something worth dying for. He’s now an adventurer and explorer in extreme environments. For a while he also considered joining the Ukrainian foreign legion. A glorious heroic death doing something worthwhile is not the worst idea. If you don’t die, you will feel more alive than ever.

  • It’s about providing some safety measures to protect the most vulnerable. They need to be thrown a lifeline and an exit sign on their way down.

For gun purchases, these can be waiting periods of a few days. So you don’t buy a gun in anger and kill someone, regretting it immediately and ruining many people’s lives.

Did you have to turn off safe search to find methods for suicide?

You are ignoring that people are already developing personal emotional reaction with chatbots. That’s no the case with search bars.

The first line above the search results at google for queries like that is a suicide hotline phone number.

A chatbot should provide at least that as well.

I’m not saying it shouldn’t provide no information.
