I’m on pop os with gnome but using dash-to-panel to get a more classic Taskbar look. I love that extension and seems extremely well supported even across upgrades, it’s so good I donated. Maybe I’ll add a screenie later.
As for op’s pic, I understand liking a particular setup, but to use their proprietary icons too seems strange to me. To each their own, I guess. I thought it was literally a mac on a Linux /c.

New Communities@lemmy.world•Tails: A Place on Lemmy for Mastodon PostsEnglish
2·2 years agoHi, I’m new to some of this stuff and I’m a little confused. How does it decide which mastodon posts to include? Are you deciding that or can anyone do it?
I’d still agree with his statement. Subset of people who could even make the determination in available source code is small compared to total users, now reduce that set to people competent in reverse engineering. “pretty hard” is not a bad description imo

Linux@lemmy.ml•What are you most excited when it comes to linux in 2024?
5·2 years agoBcachefs, love COW files. I wish all file systems had it even if it naively copied the whole file on first write. Sort of a write safe hard link.
I used to color my prompt depending on which server I was connected to (ssh), and a different color scheme for prod, dev and local. But that was a long time ago and the script is buried somewhere, also I don’t stay ssh’d to nearly as many places as I did back then. But I did like it, I’d use it now if I had it.

42·2 years agoNo, you are conflating the organization with the phrase. Probably why they picked that name. People oppose the org and their Marxist agenda, not so much (I hope) black people.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is an absurdity that has been normalized by society?
1·2 years agoIf blue cities are so bad, why are property values there so high?
Regulations stifling the building of new accommodating housing. Large cities in some red states have massive apartment complexes. Up to you to decide if you like that living arrangement but it lowers prices.

1·2 years agoCan you link to something with more info on how it works? I know how certs work and CAs but not how some random wifi network can hijack that whole trust system. It sounds like it would defeat the whole purpose of https. Thanks in advance.

0·2 years agoI was talking about work VPN, the thing I connect to every morning to access work’s internal services.
I don’t see how a 3rd party device connecting to wifi can have https MITM. Otherwise many wifi out there would do it and steal your info.

Technology@beehaw.org•Elon Musk admits X 'may fail, as so many have predicted'
8·2 years agoI think rebranding Twitter as x was pretty stupid. I wouldn’t have minded it if x was like a parent app and it was “Twitter by X” or something. But now they’re just alienating their users.
CentOS. We were stuck on an old version at work. The OS is already designed to use old packages for security/stability, so imagine how outdated they are on an old version. It was a nightmare getting new software running on it. That coupled with the other news surrounding CentOS and RHEL, I’m not touching those anymore w a 10 foot pole. I wish it just crumbles and Debian takes over. I have had amazing success with like 20 years on Debian and it just gets better and better.
This is like a movie, very good especially for this subject
