If anything what made the country so destabilized, ultimately leading to Gaddafi’s rise, was the “liberation” (read as neocolonialism) brought by the British. A similar fate happened to all the other former Italian colonies such as Ethiopia, Somalia and Eritrea.
I’m all for the right of self determination of people and decolonization was a traumatic process for many African countries (think of French Algeria for one), but it’s probably not a coincidence that all of those territories are now failed or war torn states. A smoother and more democratic process after WW2 might probably have helped the regions, but it’s not fair to blame Italy for it’s lack.

Totally agreed on that, it’s actually a feature I’m working on adding to the UI fork I’m going to use for my instance.
It uses the admin-defined Fediseers preferences of an instance and hides content from users according to them.
Flip side: imagine being a new Lemmy user, maybe coming from the algorithmically curated experience of Reddit, and having to learn what instance blocking is, how to do it and who to block. It would be quite overwhelming.
I’m all for user freedom but some users don’t want freedom. They want something that works without having to spend 15 minutes configuring it.

It might be, although I’ve read of some freezes happening even on the fastest SSD in the world so… idk, I think they might have fucked up somewhere. I also suspect there might be some memory leaks, although this comes solely from my experience, I have no data to show.
Yes, all very cool, but when are they going to fix the actual issues? Like, I don’t know, the constant freezes?

You can make decent money off it, but first and foremost it should be something you enjoy. Personally I think that’s a very chill way of breaking the monotony, after having spent too much time flying around or walking through cities to complete quests. Exploring planets has got the nice plus of not having to deal with loading screens, unless you want to get back to your ship and move to a different biome.
Certified email would solve this, if it was possible to self host it.
Unfortunately running it requires government approval and the resulting emails are legally binding, so I assume hosts will have to go through all kinds of security controls and audits.

It is possible to use Discord from the browser without necessarily making an account, but many big servers have restrictive measures that prevent users without a verified email addreds (or even a verified phone number, in the strictest of cases) to access. This will depend on your friends’ setup.
I don’t know if it’s possible to bridge Discord to Matrix, but I can tell you that it’s got a pretty prolific API for building bots and integrations, so someone might have already built something of that kind. Alternative clients are tecnically against the TOS (afaik) but I know of people who have built large projects without ever getting any complaints from the company.
Smartphone: I’ve just said goodbye to my Honor phone after 5/6 years of service (can’t remember how many precisely). Incredible lifespan for its price.
However repairability could be great. I’ve changed its battery once and screen a couple times, by the end of it the frame was about to break from all the times I had opened it.
The thing I like the most of Lemmy over Reddit is how straightforward the way I see the content is. Plenty of ways to sort your feed (personally I’m a fan of “new comments”) and no bullshit algorithm to try and understand.
That and the fact that the frontend has pages, so I don’t end up doomscrolling for hours.
Agreed. In Italy we’ve had those for some years now in big stores, and while they haven’t replaced traditional checkouts and likely never will, they provide a nice and fast way out, especially for people who bought few items.
