If it makes it any better, it would be a sort of small crocodile, at “only” 8 feet (2.6 meters ish ish) long.
That is a really bold opinion, and honestly I don’t disagree.

Linux@lemmy.ml•13" or smaller Linux laptop - best replacement for aging chromebook?
12·2 years agoThere is the factory seconds stock, which is cheaper, but RAM, storage, Wi-Fi card, power brick and expansion cards are sold separately. https://frame.work/products/factory-seconds-framework-laptop-13-diy-edition-11th-gen-intel-core Still over your price range though.

1·2 years agoProbably too different, as snails are benthic, while ammonites where probably nektonic.
Iirc the shells being longer is something about allowing gases in the shell to compress or expand as needed to control bouyancy. I would imagine there is a sac of gas, and the ammonites would siphon water in or out as needed to compress or decompress the gas.
Edit: just looked it up on Wikipedia, it appears the heteromorph ammonites are thought to have maybe been planktonic or benthic.
Definitions for non-nerds:
Benthic means living on or near the sea floor.
Nektonic means free swimming
Planktonic means going with the current as plankton. I should note plankton aren’t all tiny, some are visibile to the naked eye. All it means is unable to propel themselves against current.

Maybe a combination of controlling buoyancy with species identification?

Iirc it was the mobile browser not blocking Microsoft trackers. Lemme check
Edit: can confirm, it was not blocking MS trackers, seems to have been due to legal terms. Link: https://techcrunch.com/2022/08/05/duckduckgo-microsoft-tracking-scripts/
In my eyes that makes it even worse
Just looked into it. If that closed source bit only has GUI stuff and has no tracking bits, which is what they claim, then it is probably alright. They mentioned something about community deobfuscation for theming based modding being alright with them (Which is really excellent! Props to the Vivaldi team for outright saying it’s chill to technically break their TOS for customization), so if the GUI code has been fully deobfuscated and no tracking things found in it I would probably trust it more than Brave.
Honestly, I don’t have a huge problem personally with closed source if I know it doesn’t have tracking stuff, but unfortunately companies have lots of incentive to lie and mislead about that.
If Chrome didn’t have a monopoly, and if I knew they didn’t have tracking stuff, I would very strongly consider switching from Firefox, because in my limited experience trying Vivaldi a while back, it is really great, and I love how customizable it is.
Vivaldi is closed source though, so I personally distrust it more than I distrust Brave.
If Vivaldi was FOSS then that might change things, but it isn’t.
ETA: I felt I should mention I am a bit of a hypocrite here as my preferred Lemmy client (Boost) isn’t FOSS, but I am too used to Boost when I still used Reddit, so any other client just doesn’t feel right.
Wait, lemmy allows editing of titles?

Not an expert, but I have heard that this isn’t a big deal for the snake. Scaleless rat snakes (which I believe the picture to be) have been found in the wild doing pretty alright. There is a benefit to be had from scales, but in captivity I imagine it is alright.
Pretty sure I heard it from a video by All Canadian Reptile Girl
