Technology@beehaw.org•I’m not ignoring your message – I’m overwhelmed by the tyranny of being reachable
2·5 months agoNot the first time for me. For example, on the mobilism (apk piracy) forum, only known mail providers are accepted (e.g. gmail)

3·5 months agoSigh Guardian doesn’t let me sign up for their newsletter on a mailbox.org account, shame, was a nice article.
Pizza delivery companies hate this one weird trick
Maybe linkhut then? https://drewdevault.com/2025/03/27/2025-03-27-Using-linkhut.html
I always wondered why do people use Pocket. I just use bookmarks - for example: on the bookmarks toolbar in my browser, I have a folder named “movies to watch”. I just drag the tabs into that folder. Isn’t that similar to Pocket?
My brain being fried from the brainrot and not being able to comprehend “save to read later” probably also plays a part.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Most used encrypted messenger besides Signal, Whatsapp, iMessage, and RCS?
4·6 months agoFor example, some people don’t like that it’s centralized. It’s not like e-mail, where you can register with any provider and then cross-communicate. Moxie wrote more about this here
I switched to a feature phone that has nothing to do with Android for calling (Mocor RTOS aka S30+) because I’m tired of fighting Android for the moment. I keep an unrooted smartphone at home for online banking. Kinda extreme but that’s one way.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Are there any privacy oriented transit apps?
3·8 months agoMost of the apps rely on contributors to provide supported locations. I was wondering if a dumb app where you provide the GTFS zip url of your city would be useful. Could work if you stay in your city a lot
e.g. most of what you see on https://www.transit.land/map#3.46/47.78/12.46 is GTFS (hopefully public urls)

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Recommended me a good private email provider

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What stupidly easy tech solution do people gloss over all of the time?
4·1 year agoThe generated password lenghts can be set in the UI at least. It’s worse when the password form accepts only SOME special symbols (looking at you bank)
And also set-up SSO/LDAP in your homelab if you run one so you don’t have 3000 loose outdated account entries for IPs like 192.168.10.5 user: admin password:*****

Free and Open Source Software@beehaw.org•What is your favourite FOSS notes application?
1·1 year agoOrgzly Revived on Android, if you’re into emacs org mode. Can sync over git, webdav and dropbox. Probably syncthing too. Samba over Android file protocol with Material Design sadly doesn’t work.
On PC just edit the same org mode notes as in Orgzly, but with Emacs.

4·1 year agoMy god maybe that “open source games” lemmy community got one thing right
It’s just a joke how e.g. tf2 players beg a megacorp to fix their game every year now. I like tf2 but the power dynamic between the publisher and the player is crazy
You can also create an account and just leave a note on the map (a message that other contributors to OSM see) mentioning your observations. It’s a good option if editing the map is too overwhelming with all the different tags and how routing algorihms interpret them.

For linux games see jc141. For the most part if the game has a native port it will be marked as native in the title. If not, it’ll be emulated
