I would imagine most people’s opinions on their own opinions are that they are correct

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Stuck between living in America, China, or Japan... Which would you choose?
2·7 days agoOkay, so I don’t understand the point of this response, still. It’s obvious that OP is deciding on a country to move to, considering that was the entire premise of this thread. You said paperwork will protect OP from ICE, misleading OP. I corrected that. My response was also with OP in mind, considering he is not as experienced with American life as an American is. Your appreciation of my contributions does not matter. What point are you trying to make right now?

1·7 days agoSure it’s a slippery slope, but it’s also exactly how corporations and governments have been behaving and there’s hundreds of examples of it. You’re being intentionally dense if you don’t believe that.

2·8 days agoOkay, and? I’m talking about the USA, specifically. The person above me implied keeping your paperwork in order will protect you from ICE, and I said that was false. I was not talking about China, nor Japan

2·8 days agoUnfortunately, having paperwork in order does not protect you from ICE. They do not care about the law and will abduct you as you are walking into/out of any immigration hearings. They routinely ignore judge’s orders to release people and have no accountability for any harm or damage they cause. Sure, you might get yourself out in a week or two IF you have a good lawyer, but not before they do whatever they want to you in the meantime

61·8 days agoWhat is your purpose here? All you’ve done is argue with people who warn you to not come to the USA. You’ve been told several times that it is not only dangerous to foreigners, but also to actual natural born citizens, the schools are currently fighting against an anti-intellectualism take over, banning subjects and books that don’t align with Christian beliefs and arresting students that say killing people is wrong. ICE is patrolling airports (where you would come into the country) and arresting anyone who is just a little too dark or just that they feel like arresting. It is not only unsafe for you to come here, it is a bad idea to come here for the academia as well.
All of this you have been ignoring and downplaying and arguing with. If you’re so sure it’s a good idea, then sure, come to the States and pray you don’t get blackbagged and never seen again. It feels like you’re not here to get honest opinions, but just to argue and ignore anything you don’t like

71·9 days agoYour knowledge of the USA seems woefully out of date. Trust me, for your safety, do not consider moving to the United States right now

4·9 days agoWhile I agree moving to the US right now is extremely stupid and dangerous, ESPECIALLY while ICE is bored and prowling our airports and OP seems to be absolutely unaware of the world around them to a dangerous degree, I have to ask:
Are you THE Poem_for_your_sprog and why aren’t your posts in wonderful, whimsical poem form???

Linux@lemmy.ml•On the unfortunate need for an "age verification" API for legal compliance reasons in some U.S. states
1·11 days agoYeah, once everyone gets comfortable with being asked their age, then it’ll go to requiring a ‘realistic’ age instead of accepting someone born 1/1/1900, then it’ll move to requiring proof of your age

22·1 month agoOnly problem with that is these people aren’t capable of understanding refutations and cogent counter arguments. Allowing them on a platform automatically turns the platform into an echo chamber of bigotry that they make themselves welcome in

52·2 months agoSo what’s your point and how did you meaningfully contribute to the conversation by essentially asking what it means to sleep with someone and then saying you know what it means to sleep with someone, while somehow having an undeserved air of superiority?

It is still used to refer to things like fire retardant. To retard (pronounced ruh-tard and not ree-tard) means to slow or restrict the progress of something such as spoilage or fire spreading and is still a word with ligitimate uses, with the outdated ‘medical’ usage being a reference to a mentally disabled person’s slower mental progress.
