Yeah that’s bs. I remember feeling like this many years ago but eventually realized it was NOT liberals making it not ok to be a white man, but the conservative picture of liberals. This is all from people in the wrong echo chamber internalizing the propaganda from the other side

And yet other articles were blaming corruption and cronyism for not adequately limiting water used for agriculture

I’m from a rural area in New York, and it’s similar. My brother considered house flipping because some were so cheap you could do it by credit card. However they tended to be abandoned for years, not really salvageable, plus the population was dwindling so not much hope for a sale, ever

That article also talks about a lot of the properties being tear downs. It’s easy to say that a homeless person would find just about anything a step up, but realistically it has to be habitable, salable, maintainable. No one would want the liability of a below standard house, nor the PR hit of giving a junk house
Well I don’t imagine you would flip anything with it, but mix and and turn, including scraping some amount of stuff off the bottom of the pan

This article claims a lot of these are foreclosures and banks don’t want to be landlords

Are you including landlords? Most people with multiple houses have them to rent out: they’re not empty.
Some percentage of people have a second “empty” house for vacations or as snowbirds, but I imagine the number with more is vanishingly small.
I like the variation we have now, but more so. Let’s increase property taxes substantially, but also increase the residential exemption significantly.
Assuming he means the same as I do….
Freeze it in a baggie lying flat so it spreads out and gets thin. Then you can store a bunch of them upright like pages in a book.
It’s a great way to efficiently freezer space while having many accessible
my favorites are wooden spoons that are flattened and almost sharpened like a chisel. They are great for scraping the bottom of pots/pans to get up fond.
How do those hold up over time? I was looking at them but wondering if the edge would wear too quickly
Opposite for me, maybe because I never make bread by hand. Throw in the ingredients, press a button, four hours later fresh hot amazing bread. The only real limitation is a i never figured out a recipe that could hold up for sandwiches
Got the machine during pandemic and it was an instant hit. Our weekend tradition became starting the machine after dinner, sitting down with my teens to play video games. When the machine beeped, we needed a break anyway. It was like six months before there was ever any leftover to put away.
I stopped using the machine when I got my cholesterol numbers back
Let me blow your mind: mini food processor/chopper! Fewer moving parts, much easier to use and clean, and it completes 90% of the tasks I used to use a food processor for.
You want to chop an onion: skin it, quarter, shove it in, brief pulse. Done, put everything in the dishwasher. Perfect size and So much more convenient
Plus one for the glove. I always lived in fear of the mandolin but I got a microplaner that included the glove. Now I use it for the mandolin, the grater and the microplaner. Life changing.
Upvote for freezing as “pages”. It’s good to see someone else thinking that way
Gotta give both rice cooker and cast iron skillets, because they were part of a huge change in what and how I cook. They’ve also both become central to cooking

What are you looking for in a rice maker? The Zojirushi ones tend to bet the best reviews but are also expensive. Personally I’ve been quite satisfied with a $20 Aromatic rice cooker, it’s very basic, aphas no options and I’m sure the results aren’t as good, but it works. Consistently and conveniently.
Most of my life I rarely had rice because making it is tedious and it’s easy to lose track, but even the cheapest rice maker is a huge improvement for its convenience and consistently. Now I have rice all the time.
That being said, after like five years the non-stick coating is no longer as non-stick and I’ve been trying to reduce the teflon in my diet, so I’ll be looking for a replacement with stainless pot

I had no idea. I’m not even sure whether to call it a failure of us education system. We focus on our own country’s actions, which is probably appropriate, and there is mention of other countries, but we’re left with the impression the slave trade was predominantly us. Not to let our own history off the hook, but it would be better to understand the vast scale of slavery
Don’t listen to them: this is like bacon, best a little crispy! Perfectly done, just the way I like it.
What’s the meme again? “Yo dawg, you want some carcinogens to go with your carcinogens?”

I’ve definitely been afraid of that in recent years. Historically I’ve taken it as an opportunity for my own celebration and health be damned, but so much candy has gotten bad enough that I just don’t enjoy it.
And no I can’t afford good candy for hundreds of screaming kids who will never know the difference.
And beyond …. Your view of infinity is blocked because the speed of light is so slow
