Ideally, children would be educated and trained better to think critically; making people harder to manipulate through emotion. But, pragmatically, yeah, marketing/propaganda strategies are useful and even necessary for progress.

As I understand it, it posits that when people have low anxiety, their thinking is just habitual, but when they experience anxiety, they open themselves up to new information.

I think this is only a small part. Interest rates are kinda high. VCs only want to invest in companies with AI exposure because of all the hype. From companies I’ve interviewed with, offshoring seems to have accelerated dramatically (companies only had or wanted a few US devs to manage larger Indian teams). I’ve visited career pages of companies working in the business domain I have the most experience with, and all open software positions are exclusively in India.

I have over a decade of experience as well. Nobody in my small personal “network” knows anyone that’s hiring right now (I hate the fakeness of networking for networking sake, and am not very social, so I don’t have much of a network). I’ve applied to hundreds of job postings over 6 months, interviewed with maybe 6 companies, and rejected usually just because they were also interviewing 10-20 people for the same role, and another person had slightly more experience with a specific part of their stack, or they just liked another person more for whatever reason. I believe all remote job postings get 1000s of applicants, and every one local to me get 100s.

I think I first saw it mentioned about a month ago. I think there’s about 1 protest planned per month from the 50501 and Indivisible groups. There’s also a “continuous” protest in DC starting on May Day. Seems like there are TeslaTakedown protests every week in my area (though quite small).

Oil-based poly is much more durable. But, as other commenters say, it’s not going to protect against dings. Thick, bartop epoxy would a bit, but that scratches easily. Poly on top of epoxy may give you the best of both worlds, but haven’t tried that myself.

High quality blades can be professionally sharpened multiple times. Blades from Big Box stores generally cannot. That being said, Diablo’s are fine for home user, IMO.

Oligarchs replace most government functions with private entities that they have equity in and funnel tax dollars into their own companies. It looks like they’re trying to cause a depression too, so they can buy everything up for cheap (farms, homes, etc). I think they’re stupid, but not stupid enough to not realize an economic depression coupled with gutting social safety nets will lead to massive crime waves and riots; so I’m guessing they’re planning on a police state and work camps for people they arrest (think that’s what they’re going to do with many of the immigrants too).

I’ve heard it postulated they are realigning with Russia and other dictators because we’d lose our normal allies if we became such a society. And they probably have very lucrative deals with Russia as well.

I sucks we don’t have a good, inspiring opposition party or something to lead or rally around. Without that, anger will just manifest as unorganized, unproductive riots and violence. “Conservatives” are still pretty brainwashed too; believing whatever they’re told by media. They will support the government gunning down and enslaving “criminals,” at this point in time. I’d hope that changes when things get hard, but media will work hard to redirect the blame.
