    I like to think it is a function of the Stargate. Like the Tardis does for the Doctor and his / her companions.

      Yeah, my headcanon is that traveling through a gate maybe uploads some knowledge of the local language, and it just takes a couple trips to take effect so they had to do translation in the movie

      I could have sworn that “magic translation field within x miles of the gate” was actually mentioned at some point on screen…
