Raven runs Windows applications on Linux. You install them with their own installers, the same ones you would use on a PC, and they start: no virtual machine, no winetricks, no DLL overrides.

you mean i can finally double click an exe and it works all set up with no fiddling?
if so count me in when this is ready.
I thought you could already do that with WINE?
also i would be very keen to start recommending linux to actual laymen if something like that came around! it’s THE thing missing for the normie side from wine and the linux ecosystem.
i’ve done it and it requires a bit of setting up for each app. at least the way i did it.
something like steam that dynamically downloads protonfixes and the best version of wine for the game in question without any of my input, except for double clicking desktop apps would be legit amazing.
I didn’t post this originally because I forgot what it was called. But what I was thinking of is called “wine-binfmt”.
On Arch, I’m pretty sure this is installed automatically with Wine (possibly also on Debian/Ubuntu).
This lets you just open an exe file and have Wine handle it.
i used to click it and simply set wine to open it on my environment. it started getting manage-y when i needed to configure it for certain apps and not others, and having to manage prefixes and winetricks and such.
wine-binfmt looks like another way to do the same if i’m not mistaken?
This double click works tho
which setup are you running?
