While Wes is a little annoying, I actually liked him and thought his character matured well. I know if I got put on screen at 15, I would’ve been annoying too.

If Wil Wheaton was never in TNG for the youth appeal, my mom might have never watched The Next Generation as a tween/teen, and by proxy, I may have never watched watched it. Also, he was really fun in Star Trek: Prodigy.

I’ve really never understood all the Wesley hate. Most of the “annoying” scenes he was in were annoying because of how the adults treated him, not how he was acting.

Maybe having multiple people (one being his own mother) yell at a kid to “shut up” when he’s trying to warn them about danger isn’t the best way to cultivate a well adjusted personality. Despite being variously ignored, gaslit, and verbally abused by adults in season 1, he turns out to be a decent guy anyway.

Fun fact: The United Federation of Planets doesn’t practise capital punishment.

It does, however, hand out mandatory red (or yellow in later series) shirts to certain people.
