Moved into new (to us, built in 1980) house 2 years ago. Installed an Airthings radon meter a year ago. Levels get up to 400 Bq/m3 when all the windows are closed. Finally had a radon mitigation system installed. Will hopefully get to much safer level below 100 Bq/m3.

Curious what folks’ thoughts on fan placement are. U.S. code doesn’t allow them to be installed in a basement—they must be outside or in and attic so the the positive pressure side is outside of living spaces.

Came here to say this. If there is a leak after the fan, radon will be pumped into the dwelling. Fan should be outside or in vented attic. Exhaust vent must be away windows or vent-intakes and above roofline. Minimum clearances vary with jurisdiction. But it’s generally a bad idea to put the fan in-doors.

Fans must be placed outside because a leak after the fan can be bad. Now in all honesty, that only holds true if you have bends and twists and turns. I personally think you can place it in a basement or attic as long as you have a straight continuous pipe going up.

As bonus you get passive suction when the pipe is warm.

My fan is outside in Minnesota. I made it a contingent on buying since the seller didn’t want to budge on price.
