It has a nice feature in that it can upscale a low bitrate stream (say, 720p) to much higher quality. In effect, you could store all of your media at 720p and have it shown at 4K… or stream it at 720p and have it upscaled to 4K. Thus, saving storage costs, bandwidth and $$$.
I think it can do 480p --> 1080p too. Which means…you can store files in compressed format and upscale them on the fly. Suddenly, what took say… 5TB to store only takes 1TB, without much visual quality loss*
