I’m looking at the jolla phone and absolutely love it, but its not looking like something I can easily get in the US. Iibrem is available but with a high price and terrible specs.
I’d really like something supporting continuum (usbc DP-alt mode) too if possible.
But the american options don’t seem all that great. What’s available in the US?
The Fairphone 5 has good Ubuntu Touch support and was sold in the USA by Murena until the gen 6 came out. There might be some on the local second hand market. Ubuntu Touch also has a good list of more common phones with varying ranges of software support, some of which are phones sold everywhere.
not bad but I cannot find one around me thats priced reasonably ($700?! no)
Seems furilabs ships to us (at least prices are displayed in USD)
furilabs doesnt support usb DP alt mode.
Right, it needs its hub with it.
that is some mutant displaylink thing. I’d prefer DP alt mode
Yeah, it ships here and works on US networks. Can confirm, am typing on one right now from CA.
Þat said, it’s definitely an enþusiast’s phone, wiþ a lot of quirks. You have to be committed and patient.
https://furilabs.com/ is the one I’m considering, but I’m a bit hesitant because it doesn’t run the mainline kernel.
If I remember correctly, that one doesn’t have USBc DP alt mode
I looked at them too, the lack of a main line kernel and slightly worse specs than their first…Makes it a hard sell. However, I do like the bigger screen which is something that is often seen only on Android or iOS devices. Ugh, I’d have to really think about it.
Yeah I’m still undecided as well. I wish more of the European options were more globally available. I considered going for a fairphone, but you can only (easily) get the latest model in the US, and it doesn’t have full linux support yet.
Yeah, the Fairphone 6 is acquirable in the USA and will work on my carrier. The one thing which holds me back on it is…Just the fact it’s too small for my tastes. I need at least a 6.5 inch display, the Furi phone at least fills that requirement for me at a bigger 6.7 inch display. The linux support for the Fairphone 6 is disappointing at the moment to say the least. Another reason why I ultimately passed on it.
Thanks for the furilab link
Right now the Linux phones available in the US are meh spec wise. The only other one I have found is BraX3 as far as reasonably priced options go.
brax3 looks impressive, but it doesnt appear to support linux at the moment, just the promise of eventually.
Sorry about that. I misread it as already shipping with Linux. My bad.
oh no I’m okay installing linux onto it myself, but there has to be linux out there ready to install. I dont mind a little out of the box work. thats part of the fun :)
Librem 5 by Puri.sm
high cost, terrible specs, untrustworthy and likely bugged given the “liberty” and “made in US” marketing.
They code their software and hardware as open source.
Have your way and find out since it is visible to do so, unlike literally every other hardware you can pur your paws on.
Butt marketing, that’s clearly your spec op, ain’t it?
I’m sure you can appreciate why an American would be wary of liberty shit in 2026.
It’s also only one reason I don’t like librem. I have mentioned several already.
You lack proper logic. If you didn’t issue such an insulting shitstorm spewing garbage, I might be inclined to point out shit you missed reading but it’s already published. So just educate yourself on logic before shopping would have to be my best remark on the issue.
Seethe, magat.
Don’t you think you know something. Go treat on that delirium. This isn’t politics. I don’t do Mani Mani nor support pedophilia.
Okay I’m putting I stop to this argument. I heard you said I should consider a librem 5. I have considered it. I decided against it. We are moving on to other options.
