So, just the one incident?

Gaming@beehaw.org•An unsettling indie game about horses keeps getting banned from storesEnglish
299·2 days agoBanned is the wrong word.
Steam chose not to distribute it because it they understood an early build to include children in sexual situations. Further builds did not dissuade them from the original decision.
Epic, who originally was going to distribute based on the developer filling out some form chose not to after filling it out themselves and finding it had a higher rating (adult only) at the last minute.
The developer speculated it was about a specific scene, but based on both steam and epic there are fundamental concerns about the content that led to no distributing on their platforms, which is not banning, that do not align with the story the developers are presenting. It is not likely to be about one scene that was in an earlier build that was the issue for them.
The important thing is that the game is not BANNED in any way whatsoever. It is available on fewer distribution platforms, which reduces visibility, but is not banning any more than exclusive deals or limited releases are banning on other platforms.
Personally I get the impression that the developers see the content very differently than steam and epic because the developers focus on intent and steam and epic focus on what actually exists in the game.
I’m sorry, are you saying a single incident that didn’t have an apology was unforgivable or that it represented a common trait of your dad?

Technology@beehaw.org•My Car Is Becoming a Brick: EVs are poised to age like smartphones.English
71·11 days agoCars in general have rigorous software testing that means the last update will run fine indefinitely, and most of the updates only change nice to have features, not core operations like the engine and drive train.
EVs are pushing the envelope by having some software updates that directly change how the battery and drive train work. Tesla is the one I hear going completely in on subpar testing for updates to critical components. I don’t know if other manufacturers are doing nearly as much as Tesla is, so it might even be a Tesla problem more than an EV problem at this point, but as time goes on others will become more bold with increasing numbers of updates and lazier testing because it worked out for Tesla’s market share.
An EV that doesn’t have constant software updates can easily exist, and they should work fine until the frame falls apart. I think a portion of the EV market falls into that category, but don’t really know for certain.

Games@sh.itjust.works•"It's extremely frustrating and also f*cked up" - one of the world's best indie studios is facing shock closure following confounding Steam banEnglish
211·11 days agoAfter reading a couple more articles I get the strong feeling that steam/valve’a early communication about concerns with the live actor portions likely did convey what they had issues with and the dev is trying to be coy about it by speculating on a scene that magically works better with a young adult. I’m leaning towards them making the change because of expecting the other storefronts to have the same issues.
So they kind of did get more than one chance, but they are focused on the one with the rejection.

221·11 days agoEh, if steam saw some of the content as involving a minor and they are sick of dealing with games trying to toe the line before and likely after release I could see them defaulting to a no do overs policy. Especially if the game dev doesn’t sell enough games to make the potential legal hassle necessary.
It would be far better if they pointed out what they are using for criteria for sure and allow at least one do over in case of a misunderstanding though.

8·19 days agoNot sure how that would be an issue for just doing things while living like raising food, building and repairing things. It isn’t like I start thinking negative or harmful things when alone, the solitude actually makes it easier for introspection and questioning of ideas society promotes that are contradictory.
For me being an introvert is the reason I enjoy being alone with my thoughts. So much easier with fewer interruptions.

12·19 days agoFor the average person, sure, but some of us thrive in solitude. Like I have a family and that is great, but sometimes I want to just be alone and only a few people are more fun to be around than just being alone.

781·23 days agoI would bet that the claim of more than half of Linux players cheating is false positives due to shitty anti cheat. Like the anti cheat relying on some windows process or trying to initiate some process and linux is structured differently so it fails.
