I’ve looked, what you say is mostly accurate but getting a bit dated - the NVME performance gap with SATA SSDs keeps widening especially with DirectStorage games (eg Spider Man 2 - triple the load speed vs SATA).

This gap will continue to widen as devs focus performance improvements on the tech available to them, and as the price difference between SATA SSDs and NVME is diminishing rapidly (only a 5% difference in common mid tier models now) there is very little reason to recommend SATA over NVMe for cost reasons - which was kinda the focus of this thread. I’d not advise anyone today to buy a SATA SSD over NVMe for gaming unless the cost saving was large.

The performance improvements outside of load times, eg during gaming are significant but harder to benchmark, because pop-in of assets during gameplay is not something we can currently easily measure, it’s something you need to compare side by side videos of and there are many that show significant stuttering and pop-in for DirectStorage games like Ratchet and Clank. One of the things that sucks about Android is that as the versions march on they raise the API requirements (ostensibly for security), which leaves old games being unable to run on new devices.

I have a bunch of games purchased om Humble Bundles over the years that now just refuse to run on my Android devices as their API target level is too old.

What? A SATA drive (presuming you mean a sata SSD, not mechanical) will do absolutely nowhere near the load times of NVME. SATA3 peak bandwidth is 600MB/s, closest drives gets in real world read speeds is around 550MB/s.

NVME drives do at least ten times that for a midrange one. Up to thirty times for the latest gen top of the line.

Edit - commenters have fairly pointed out that the difference in actual load times is not as huge as I thought, it might be triple as fast but it’s not a huge deal as it’s still sub-second. However, it is noticeable and increasing as games develop more for the new tech. Most PC builders do not recommend a SATA SSD over a NVME because the price difference is now minimal and they will be more future-proof as more DirectStorage and similar tech is utilized by modern games.

Nobody is buying a 256gb drive for games anymore. That’s like 1 to 1.5 games nowadays. Instead 2-4TB drive is the most common purchase for a ‘games drive’. AI has roughly doubled the cost in two years for such drives - even higher for premium quality drives.

I’m not gonna poor-shame people who still play on spinning disk HDDs. AI hype continues to make gaming more expensive by the day.

Gender is not sex. Gender is not binary, nor is sex. These are not scientifically controversial ideas. They are long studied norms.

1. Some (very few) trans women want to play in women’s sports. There have been trans athletes for many decades. It only became an issue when conservatives started complaining that they were in sport. Then the rules have been changed to ban them. Literally the opposite of your claim.

3. Never heard of this would love an example. Seems like an incredibly niche issue.
4. Trans women are women. They ask to be named as such on their forms. Who does this affect?
5. So in the past, in countries with good social support networks for healthcare governments have offered to pay for gender affirming care. Its recommended by psychologists, psychiatriaata and was the standard of care recommendes by leading health bodies. Im aware of governments now beginning to stop offering these surgeries and gender care based on pressure, again, from anti-trans folk.

What is the impact to you or anyone else of 2,3,4,5? Remember we’re discussing issues that are not falling into the category of “if this isn’t hurting anyone then hey none of my business” and “everyone deserves equal care”. I pay my taxes… And if some guy gets testosterone therapy because he’s 50 and his testosterone has started to decline and he needs gender affirming care, that’s fine - that’s good. Same for an older woman needing oestrogen therapy - great, help her out. Why would I suddenly give a crap if some struggling person wants trans treatment and it’s recommended by the medical establishment?? if trans were just saying “we exist, let us exist, don’t hate us just for existing” like the rest of LGB, I don’t think it would be an issue. Nowadays the inks are almost entirely synthetic, sourced from the same companies that make industrial paint, and have been tested and some found to contain carbon black nanoparticles, Texanol, BHT, 2-phenoxyethanol, and various other things that are confirmed (or reasonably suspected) to be toxic and which definitely wouldn’t be in historical inks.

The proof should be entirely on the suppliers and administrators (tattooists) to confirm their ink and tattoos are safe, not the users. Yet their regulations are very lax in most countries, requiring no pharmaceutical testing even though they are injected into people’s skin.

Not a biologist but I believe the latter. If the ink could be broken down by the macrophages in your lymph nodes it would likely be broken down in its intended location in your skin too, as there are lyphatic capillaries and vessels throughout our skin.

Where have Steam said they are partnering with a company to offer replacement parts? As far as I’ve read, Valve have not provided any details around sourcing replacement batteries for the Steam Controller. All they’ve said is that the controller is able to be serviced by opening via the screws and clips - ie it’s not glued closed like many user-hostile companies, eg Google Stadia.

This is in no way the same as old smart phones (eg Galaxy S1-S5) toolless battery replacement, where you would just slide off the battery cover, pop out the old battery insert new, click battery cover back on. PS3 Dualschock 3 controllers are also exactly as user-serviceable - clips and screws, no glue. So I agree with OP: batteries that are built for toolless user replacement to a standard format are far superior. This is just asking for e-waste.
