  • Massages or (far worse) manual therapy on the neck can lead to a dissection, spasm, etc. of the vertaebral arteries - they are in the back of the neck, fairly vulnerable and sadly lead to real nasty strokes that often lead to major paralysis or death a lot of the real critical tissues in the brain are supplied by them and clots as well as tissuetend to find their way into the basilar artery which is basically the worst place for them to be. The brain can compensate for a lot, especially when it comes to the cortex, but back there, structures are small, tend not to have “collateral” aka backup but are very important.

The type of symptoms and paralysis he has makes it very likely for him to have suffered from something in that area and well… Manual therapy and massage in that area are the absolute posterboy reason for someone to have these strokes, especially in a comparably young age. I saw 18 year olds have debilitating strokes that way. I had a 28 year old woman go from "talking to me to brain death/organ donor* within 45 minutes. (BTW: Covid is another huge risk factor, but that affects more the venous side of that area. The vaccination does massively reduce these cases, especially in woman on hormonal birth control).

There is a reason why in a lot of European countries a massage of the neck is forbidden/considered malpractice by massage therapists (beside it not helping much anyway - muscular cervical pain almost always is caused lower, in the shoulder muscles) and manual therapy of the neck above C4 needs special training for physios (and even then is discouraged).

Don’t get me wrong, I am not blaming the massage therapist - One would need to see the MRI for that- but it is a reasonably good reminder of a common cause for these cases.

  • She operated a (pretty shady) bar and basically prioritised that and her own enjoyment over her child a lot of times, letting her child sleep in the (guest area of the) bar, even when she was not working and someone else (she barely knew) worked there because she was out partying. Additionally this lifestyle led to her sleeping in for a long time letting her daughter often be unsupervised/uncared for at a very young age (like…toddler age) - as it happened on that day. (She kid skipped school - very likely with her mother knowing and allowing her after a fight they had. And left “to visit a friend the same age” - who would be in school at that time. There are some sources citing neighbours that it’s possible she threw her out because the girl was getting on her nerves as she possibly did before).

She actually, under mounting pressure from the German version of CPS and her relatives and friends openly (including in front of the child) discussed giving her up for adoption (like she had done 2 times before with other children)/ claimed she didn’t want to be responsible for the child.

She later refused to take part in the court proceedings, mainly these also did shine some light on her role of her as a mother and actually was almost imprisoned for being in contempt of the court. There are some theories that this, together with the fact that the perpetrator claiming that he was blackmailed by the child which back then would have fallen back on her as well (even if obviously untrue) was the real reason she decided to kill the guy at the time she did. (She later on confessed that it was murder and not manslaughter)

Surely a lot of things must be seen in the (very tight and depressing) morals of the time - she was a young woman with a bad family history herself and then her life became even worse. But…that was not the fault of the child as well. And by either standards, todays as well as the ones back then she surely was a bad mother, sorry.

Was she responsible for the murder of her daughter? No. Does that make her less of a bad person and less of a murderer herself? No.

(We had to cover this case in uni extensively - one of my professors actually was working as a DA in the same building back when it happend – or something like that, can’t remeber-)

  • Well, the AM transmitter in the old car won’t work anymore as well.

Cars do age the same in terms of user experience - they are simply frozen in the state they are. (And at least within the EU can be operated fully offline)

The author seems to be more concerned that his car might not get “new features” anymore - and that bothers hims as the “free update” culture is extending to a lot of things. Technology advances but nothing has changed about that - that was always the case and now we can at least update some things.

While I would love to have a carnaker offer a open source plattform that would make people able to update and modify the entertainment/navigation part of their car I actually spoke to a car makers product manager about it - and sadly the multitude of regulations cars fall under in their various markets makes that basically impossible.

More important would be that we campaign for other things in terms of laws (some are in place in the EU but are currently under pressure):

    • Manufacturers need to provide security updates for online functions for 10 years after the end of production.

    • Manufacturers need to provide navigation updates for 5 years after the end of production

    • Cars need a designated fully offline mode

    • Driving data obtained must not be used for commercial purposes. (Currently already implemented in the GDPR)

    • Important and often overlooked: Manufacturers must provide service software tools for cars for ALL repair shops and for at least 20 years after end of production. AND we need to work towards an open source industry standard.

Get an allergy test. Banana allergies (even though that doesn’t necessarily sound like one) are associated with other allergies, including some medications.

So…you might want to know in advance.

If it is not that then try biobananas once. A lot of people are sensitive to the pesticides used.
