Me too! I prune my yard of invasives and let the natives grow, cataloging with iNaturalist as I see new species. My yard was a dirt slope last summer, this summer it is full of a wonderful variety of plants! My crotchety gardener mother and aunt keep trying to offer me non-natives to transplant – I tell them I’ve got plants growing already but thank you – they say, “yeah, weeds.”
Funnily enough, my yard with milkweed, primrose, violets, tickseed flowers, black-eyed susans, a walnut sapling, pepperweed, and st johns wort (not actually native here but not as invasive as some other plants) looks better than theirs and probably requires way less maintenance.

There are a lot of language learning resources on the site i use. I did a whole Michel Thomas advanced audio course for portuguese that helped me learn the basics. What’s the title of the french book your friend is looking for?
I do it with navidrome. Have been streaming my music from my desktop for the past 3 months. Pretty satisfying. I haven’t done the fancy lyric stuff yet though.
I mean it in a most sincere and endearing way. Gave me a joy and chuckle.
good post, sounds like a copypasta

At my work, we maintain computers for a bio lab that use Nvidia glasses to view stereo images of cryogenically frozen protein structures.
Nvidia doesn’t support them anymore, and there was an email thread that was forwarded to us by the lab manager of some scientists discussing the issue. One of them suggested to the others that they could just cross their eyes and see the images that way instead of using the glasses. Funny stuff!

Yeah. In middle school I was gonna be an NBA player 😂

best phone ever. miss that back fingerprint sensor

Thank you so much. You’ve given me some things to think about. Wayland may be the way to go…I probably want to upgrade from Ubuntu 22.04 to 24.04, too, to get a newer version of GNOME. It may be that I want to move off Ubuntu…but that will be a whole process…
We’ll see how it goes…thanks again

hahahaha
nvidia, fuck you
thanks anyways

Whoops sorry. Yeah, I’m running with Proton. Pretty sure with the native version you can’t play online. I’ll try prime-run, but I’m not sure it will help – fairly certain Rocket League is using the NVIDIA GPU (btw, I can’t actually find a manpage for prime-run or nvidia-prime – do you know what game-performance does?)
Thanks
Edit: Thanks for linking that protondb page. Didn’t know that existed. Finally found another reference to a different issue I had with RL (controller rumble during boost cuts out after about 2s) that Ive researched before but couldnt find any info. Now if only there were a solution lol

I think of him as astoundingly stupid. But he ain’t dumb.

I think I have seen a similar issue. Mine is that sometimes my firefox gets stuck in the background and I can click the icon in my dock to maximize it. Nothing happens. I have to hit the Windows key to view all my windows in that particular workspace, then click firefox to get it to the front. Sometimes it doesn’t work and I have to close out Firefox and reopen. Is that similar to what you’re seeing ?

As another has said, strengthen your local ties. In the event of a collapse, we’re all going to be affected in one way or another. I think the biggest thing is fostering a culture of cooperation rather the competition. That means avoid prepping, avoid emptying store shelves, avoid hoarding goods en masse in your basement or shelter.
I think a good first step would be to look for local mutual aid groups. Just Google your town or state + “mutual aid”. These groups are already out there directly servicing those most in need, and are the most ready to spring into action when a disaster strikes (here is some testimony about mutual aid group action during Hurricane Helene)
Oftentimes these groups are open to volunteers or donations and will be active during natural catastrophes, and I’d imagine economic ones as well.

For me, the grim outlook began when studios kept trying to cash in on the stories I loved, and continually ruined them. Games, TV, Movies. Enshittification started there, imo. It makes sense, really, for the product to be mediocre or even bad. And it makess sense why conservatives are so obsessed about efficiency. An efficiently made product is the worst possible version of the product that the market continues to accept.

Ahh. Well, you gave me a chuckle so thanks for that and have a great day!

Alright, sure… we’ll just move past it then lol

“This is not the platform to discuss organizing,” communism@lemmy.ml said.
Obviously there is more to their comment, and they are totally right. But it’s ironic because it subverts your expectation of what a user called communism@lemmy.ml would say
