Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL Cell phone use greater than 10 years increases the risk for acoustic neuroma and gliomas.English
56·5 months agoThat’s not how odds ratios (or research) work. The compares groups of cell phone users and non-cell phone users.
With that being said, we’ve always known cell phone use has a correlation with very slightly increased cancer rates. That shouldn’t be controversial. It’s not concluding that there’s a direct cause or even, if they did cause it, that it’s from RF.

20·5 months agoI always knew cancer caused people to use cell phones!
Edit: on a serious note, the confidence interval for malignant tumors is an odds ratio of 1.2-3.4, although a quick google finds more recent studies (I.e.: not based off of 1990s cell phones) are even lower.

Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL Gaslight (1944) is a real movieEnglish
20·9 months agoIt’s actually based on a play, but yeah… “the gas lights aren’t flickering” is the original gaslighting
The film was nominated for a decent number of Oscars and won a handful iirc. Edit: womp, it went 2 for 7 at the Oscars.

215·10 months agoI copy and pasted stuff that fit my headline and ignored where the article said the original author was cool with it and the fact that this literally just happened, not on initial Chinese release of the film

17814·10 months agoSo, to clarify… ONE Chinese company recently edited the ending, which the author (edit: author of the book) himself said more closely matches the book…
Sketchy but also not “China censors film!” Considering they basically showed all of it and slapped a title at the end to make it more like the book

I’ve resigned myself to pill pockets. They can get pricey, but if it’s not a pill that’s flavored for dogs, my dogs won’t take them. Or they’ll pretend to and I’ll find the pill hours later that they spat out
