I’m not sure what you’re asking. There is microG that spoofs Play services to apps. That’s been around for several years.
You can also find open source push notification apps on f-droid. Some of those might require a self hosted server, while for example Sunup uses Mozilla’s server.
Whether those work on your device probably depends on your ability to root it 🤷
I started degoogling because of Google’s more and more transparent business plan of data surveillance. I’m not comfortable with “paying with my information” because of the uncountable (and frankly unimaginable) ways that information can be applied by third parties without my knowledge.
“AI” is one example which wasn’t even on the chart when I started degoogling, but we can all be certain that Google and partners use any language sample available on Gmail and G drive to train theirs. This is the company that casually registered private WiFi networks in the course of mapping their Maps street view. They’ll harvest everything they can.
At heart, I don’t trust corporate mega-monopolies to take care of our best interests as online citizens, and as a European I’m super sceptical of becoming subject to less safe legislation (US, Chinese or whatever) that doesn’t offer me protections that I have or expect at home.
By not using Google (or Meta, or Amazon, or X) I can deliberately pick and choose individual services — or host them for myself — rather than hedge everything on the benevolence of one corporation that doesn’t give a shit about their users.
As I understand, it’s no small task to build or maintain a working search index. There’s a reason it’s mostly been huge, corporate entities that take on the challenge, and why smaller search providers tend to rely on preexisting ones.
So I applaud Qwant and Ecosia on their initiative, but also understand that it may take a while before it bears fruit.

I’ve definitely felt the enshittification of DDG. A couple of years ago they would start dropping hits related to my location into my search results, even when I had region off and private search by default. That gave me the impression that my IP address was being used and possibly passed on to Bing, but I don’t have the chops to confirm it 🤷
Friend, as I understand the situation you wrote the guides already, then crunched them into image files. If you have the source text, why expect others to put in the work of transcribing them? 🤷

Looks like you put some consideration into this, so I’m a little disappointed that you are sharing text as an image format, without alt text.
Please take this as constructive criticism, I know graphics are the easiest way for many people to share something like this, but particularly for non-visual media like audio books it may be worth your while to address the visually disabled as well 🙂
What I take away from these testimonies is that, again, the people in charge show that they have little understanding of and zero respect for the skills and craft of creatives — and in this case also programmers. We always knew that, but it is next level offensiveness to demand that skilled professionals use a subpar technology to “generate” ideas, designs and code.
The art director who forgets all his learned process of idea development and instead just prompts Midjourney until he sees something he likes (but which his staff will have to backward engineer to make sense of) is a terrifying image of things to come. Fortunately I’m long out of the corporate creative treadmill.

Ugh, enough with the James Kirk already. This show has such a nerd hard-on, they’re contradicting the original series just to crowbar very specific pet TOS elements in.
In “The menagerie”, pt 1, Kirk explicitly states he only met Pike the once when he was made Fleet Captain.
In “Arena”, Kirk first meets “a creature apparently called a Gorn”. He has no idea what they are, nor does Spock, McCoy, Chapel or anybody else who (according to SNW) met them before bother to give him advice.
Not that it matters, it’s clearly a completely different species from the alligator Xenomorphs in the current show.
Twice already they’ve concocted absurd time paradoxes so that Kirk could become vErY iMpOrTaNt to SNW crew without breaking canon, but by now they don’t seem to care anymore.
I’m at a point where I’m watching current Star trek once only for the occasional, non-TOS related character moments, and then never again. I could live with the Disco Klingons, but this is utter bullshit.
