Yeah, I also feel like that’s not a surprise to anybody that’s had dogs.

Cooking @lemmy.world•[Discussion] Can I make something like a "hunter's pot"?English
5·8 days agoIt’s going to take time for the soup to heat up and cool down each time, and that’s a window for bacteria to grow. A true perpetual stew is never allowed to cool off, which is what makes it safe.
However, if you are interested in fermentation and pickling, there are absolutely ways to reuse the brine, and it’s typically done at room temperature.

121·25 days agoFrom what I’m seeing around, it’s really starting to sound like the exact kind of hard that I can’t do. I had hopes that it was normal turn-based because I can do those games, but I wound up installing a god mod so I could play through the Witcher 3 on easy.
I was already dealing with a tumor in my thalamus, then got t-boned by a SUV, cracked my skull, had a brain bleed, and the whiplash gave my neck bone spurs that are compressing my spinal cord. It’s like my brain/body connection is dropping packets, and it’s so incredibly frustrating lol.

14·25 days agoI’m on the fence about trying it. On one hand, I’ve heard you shouldn’t even try if you don’t have good reflexes, but its apparently turn based and I don’t know how a turn based game needs reflexes.
I have problems with my hand coordination, so if it really does need reflexes, I don’t want to waste my money on it.

2·26 days agoYeah, I dislocated my knee in high school, couldn’t afford to go to a doctor, haven’t been able to walk right since.
but there’s only so many times you can read stuff like “getting it addressed within X hours has Y% chance of saving the testicle” before you came lol.
Dang, I wish it was that easy to come for me.

Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL that states that voted for Donald Trump have a higher murder rate than states that didn't.English
1·26 days agoYeah, and I’m saying there’s two ways of understanding crime rates. One is by looking at how likely it is that you will be a victim (per capita), and one is how likely it is that you or somebody near you will be a victim (per capita * number of people nearby).

2·27 days agoYeah, the numbers aren’t supposed to be accurate. The real numbers are going to vary wildly depending on location, and I don’t think you can ballpark it, so I went with obviously fake numbers to express a concept.
Wdym I don’t understand per capita? America has a murder rate of 5.67 per 100,000 people, is that not how you express per capita?

54·27 days agoBut the idiots don’t understand what “per capita” means. So they just cite the total volume of violent crime, and neglect to mention that there is a lesser chance of an individual being a victim of violent crime.
I get it. It’s not so much that they’re ignoring “per capita”, it’s that they’re seeing it from the angle of “what’s the chance of this happening in my neighborhood”. If the chances of getting murdered are, idk, 1/100 in the city, and 3/100 in the sticks, but my neighborhood in the sticks has 25 people in it versus a 300 person apartment complex, it’s more likely that one of my neighbors will get killed in the city, and while sure, you’re not the one that’s dead, survivor’s guilt fucking sucks.
This is also not taking into account that the crime rate isn’t homogeneous across an entire municipality, the likelihood of a rural person’s ability to afford a privileged neighborhood in the city, and how that impacts their perceptions.

18·28 days agoYou just gotta get creative. What if we had a lotto system, where every day one person gets a million bucks, and fifty people get to do forced labor for the rest of their life? We wouldn’t need surveillance, we’d just have to tell them we’re watching and let the RNG do all the work instead.
