To anyone curious how it sounds, I found this ABC segment about the sounds. Rather underwhelming, but cute. Sounds start like halfway in.

I get that participation is important, but why does it feel like google is outsourcing good, sane management decisions?

Technology@beehaw.org•Why Conservatives Are Attacking ‘Wokepedia’
2·2 months agoI agree about the liability part. My interest was piqued during the so called Twitter files, when reporting was something like the bosses of twitter, Facebook and Wikipedia sat in a weekly (or was it monthly?) meeting, where they were told what controversial topics to “tamp down” on. I found it very weird, especially since I cannot imagine how one “tamps down” on a wikipedia article?
I think the much harder part is how would you go about democratising a website?

4·2 months agoLook at postmarket OS. Unless you are really lucky, texting, calling, wifi, etc is not or barely working.
I do not think they are dumbasses. They understand very well that “pumping the brakes” can start negotiations with people who have infinite deep pockets and are willing to let them have a little extra so the infinitely deep pockets stay that way.
Self-enrichment is a powerful motivator.
Like Nixon, when he helped privatize healthcare. Playing Dumb (and a little crazy) has been a schtick for republicans for 60 years. I wish there was a website with all the crazy shit republicans said and did in public, maybe I need to start one…

Politics@beehaw.org•The Age of the Meme Shooter Is Here: Online nihilism is spilling over into real-world violence
5·3 months agoI’ll tell you a story. In the Nazi Years my great-uncle was in the upper echelon of the German Reich. As in, he should have been in Nuremberg. And should have been hanged. He escaped judgement day with lies. “I’m just very conservative. What else could a conservative who loves his country have done. There was no alternative to beeing a Nazi. I am just a conservative.”
Well. It was a lie. After the war he went right back to where he was and was an active Nazi right til the day he died. That despicable cunt loved, absolutely loved deception. He always had an explanation ready why the things he did weren’t Nazi things.
This whole spiel just for lulz, nihilism or internet points smells like the same deception my uncle used.
Especially if you see who applauds and supports these assholes.

TIL,Thank you for dumping obscure biological knowledge!
I felt the same when I found out roughly 90-99 % of serotonin (predecessor) is produced by a certain type of gut bacteria. For some reason, finding the research was (is? Haven’t checked for a few years) for some reason non-obvious and difficult.
Now that I think about it, is there a wiki or something where we can share this knowledge? Your artefact would have helped a friend a few years ago…

Well be advised it may not be as easy anymore. Cause I’m the computer person in my friend group I recently switched an fp5 to /e/. It has some kind of firmware security built in where you can install only a system with the same or higher patch level. The system installed was at a higher patch.level than the /e/-system available, which gave me headaches.
Results may vary.

Never met someone in the field who acts as stupid as RFKjr, I so sorry for the U.s.-ian people.
Well wait a second, they found out what caused the pharaohs curse? That’s awesome!
Well I guess I’m one of the lucky 10.000 then.
A Tip: some IT departments allow software from the Mac app store, so I would recommend UTM for easy Linux virtualization . Other apps have better features, but are a little more involved to set up.
Oh I see. Sorry I misunderstood your usecase. Then customising XQuartz (Apples X11 Server) or just running a VM with a shared folder seems to be the best option (if your employer allows them).
Oh that’s sad. Last version of MacOS I used was 11 or 12, and things like keyboard shortcuts and mouse behaviour stopped working randomly there too. Guess the detoriation of their GUI hasn’t slowed down.
For what it’s worth I used some drag and drop shelf tool, closed source, a mix of macboard and dropover, can’t find it right now.

Well I played beasts of maravilla island with my youngest (late teens) and can recommend. Very cute, nice dynamics and very easy to turn off and come back later.
Did also not know momcore was a thing tho…
