How on earth would an average person looking at this pic of Cavill know it’s Hugo Boss?

You have a 1 in 2 chance of pulling a cursed arrow the first time.
If you pulled a cursed arrow the first time, the second arrow has a 4 in 9 chance to be cursed. Otherwise, it’s 5 in 9.
Personally I’d have resolved this as a single d10 once, and rerolled a 10 on the second arrow. I haven’t done the math to know if 3d6+1d4 <16 yields the same probability though.

TenForward: Where Every Vulcan Knows Your Name@lemmy.world•Anon tries watching nu-Trek
18·1 year agoI think i agree with the general premise that flawed characters are more interesting, and i also feel (with no data to back up that feeling, so bear with me) that these ‘woke’ characters sometimes fall into a pitfall where they’re just so boringly written that it does feel like the writers are either afraid of being perceived as ‘punching down’ or (edit: finishing this thought) want to misguidedly write a perfect character for the sake of superficial representation of some group.
That said, for this show in particular (i have watched TNG/DS9/Voyager but not Discovery), is it a valid criticism for this captain that couldn’t be applied to the older series? Picard’s flaws are heavily understated - sure, he was a violent little shit off screen when he was younger, and he can be a little more of a hardass than called for occasionally, but I always felt he was pretty consistently portrayed as the voice of reason, and his flaws were only relevant in a couple episodes. I think I would say that’s also true of Sisko and Janeway, though Sisko has a lot more nuance to his pragmatism that is really interesting as DS9 continues.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do you think that the "Boeing debacle" will change what is taught in MBA programs ?
20·1 year agoI’m a recent MBA grad and I can attest that stuff like this was an important part of the curriculum re: sustainable growth. Cutting corners, focusing on short term profits is always a dead end. When leaders get lazy and don’t drive a culture that is aligned with the company’s mission, values, and obligations, decay is inevitable. The Boeing board of directors is as complicit in all of this as their executives are.
I don’t necessarily believe you have to have deep expertise in a given field to govern a business in said field. Often it’s even an advantage to come in with a fresh set of eyes. But you need to at least RESPECT that field and its experts and be forthright about taking responsibility when you take action intended to eliminate waste. If the only metric you are using is revenue, or operating profit, or whatever, you are creating an organization that is incentivized to maximize those at the expense of other, core-business-critical factors. If you’re making something inconsequential, by all means take those risks and race to the bottom. But when people’s lives are at stake, you need to have reverence for what your business actually does.
