Privacy@lemmy.ml•You can tell the day I installed lineage os(with microg) on my dad's phone.
8·3 days agoJust as likely that red sliver at the end was the traffic created by his intentional usage of the phone all-along. Telemetry and ads are just that gross, but what do I know?

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Which company has a better reputation Lenovo or ASUS?
22·15 days agoThat was 20 years ago. Few, if any of those employees would still be with the company today. “Knowing” means nothing to the passage of time, particularly in the tech sector.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Which company has a better reputation Lenovo or ASUS?
61·16 days agoNo they’re not. IBM sold the brand and supply chain off. Not sure how many employees were kept, transfered, or axed, but the concensus has long been that it wasn’t enough to justify your claim.

4·24 days agoNot enough for them to ever come close to impimenting enough checks server-side, or take competitive or transactional multiplayer cloud-only, but also magically enough for them to demand the ability to install back-doors and malware on our PC’s.
It’s just magical like that yo, they ain’t gotta explain shit. How dare you ask for answers or for them to respect your privacy, cheater?

Politics@beehaw.org•Why Is Child Marriage Legal in So Many States?
4·1 month agoDoesn’t help both sides treat it as an all-or-nothing affair, and that “with parental consent” bit does a lot of heavy lifting, by which I mean, to make the status-quo extra stupid.
Slap the same age-parity restrictions on it as age-of-consent laws, toss that parents-consenting-on-behalf-of-their-spawn crap in the garbage bin, and … well, the stupid articles will at least have different questions to ask?
Personally, I’m pro-emancipation, and see this as an important part of that conversation, but both sides of the aisle would rather infantilize young (white)adults until the age of 26(or older …), so what do I know?

4·2 months agoYes, banning super-intelligence that doesn’t justifiably hate us is an amazingly great idea.

Woodworking@lemmy.ca•Question about scroll saws on harder woods and thicker cuts
3·2 months agoHave you considered a table-top reciprocating saw like the Worx Bladerunner? Personally, I would rather go that route only if it took sawzall blades, but its an option.
On the other end of the spectrum, you could always slap a worktable on a portable bandsaw, like Blondihacks does. She shows how to make one here, but there are a lot of options on the market.
Personally, I put a WEN portable bandsaw on such a stand. I went with the corded version for the price, power, and variable speed. If you look at the reviews, the only complaint I recall seeing is that its “heavy”. I’ve got it on a stand, on a stool that I cut-down to put the table height just-below the height of my saw-horses, and I move it where I want without problem, so “heavy”? Not for my uses.

Parenting@lemmy.world•How following gentle parenting online left this mom feeling 'powerless' | Well-meaning parents are drawn to gentle parenting, but often find themselves overwhelmed or confused by it
71·2 months agoLost me at no time-outs, no limits. Most children won’t learn to calm themselves and/or move on if you don’t force them to take a break from whatever it is that has triggered a breakdown in self-control. Don’t even get me started on what happens when you leave kids to their own devices versus sleep, pee breaks, and proper nutrition/hydration.

Parenting@lemmy.world•Is a kid friendly free and open internet possible?
8·2 months agoThe internet absolutely wasn’t safe for kids then, and to say I have doubts that a “kid-safe” internet would have had the same effect on you is to put it mildly. Sanitized and child-safe spaces aren’t what make for capable adults.

Gotta disable UPNP to commit to this specific strategy …
