Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do you guys know people who are awful human beings, but end up being super attractive, smart and loved by everyone they seem, but you can see through their bullshit and don't like them?

3·1 month agoI tried, but it doesn’t work for age restricted videos. I tend to use Freetube whenever possible, and only swap to other options when I am forced for age restriction.

And it feels very naive to believe that people change just because they are called out on it and they have to say so to save whatever is left of their reputation. It is even more naive to believe so when the guy hasn’t improve a tiny bit.
Saying that he improved and we should just shut up about it just because he said so, it is literal gaslighting dressed in “just put the other cheek” masochism and giving green light to abuser just because they lie about their supposed improvement
Admitting something because you are called out on it is the same as apologizing for saying racist shit on tv. It is all performative and wouldnt happen if people wouldnt have made it public
He didn’t admit his fault. He just validated his ideology and told other people that they don’t have to work with him.
He is pretty much normalizing abusive behavior and rationalizing it by saying that he is not politically correct and that respect is earned.
Believing that basic human decency must be earned on the basis on intellectual achievements is “good principle”?
Saying “respect must be earned” but giving disrespect freely and abundantly is good principle?
This argument is just a cult of intellect even to the detriment of society, low-key eugenics.

I just sat down for the first time with them as a group on the lunch table, and this white girl just casually said that out of the blue. I barely knew any of these people, and there was the Mexican guy and Indian guy sitting, on the table, yet this one white women, just decided to make the comment about black people. It was honestly disrespectful and disgusting, how she decided that it was okay to other someone like that the first time they decide to join them on the table. To me it felt that to her the reasons that caused to this, namely slavery, segregation, apartheid, red lining, sundown towns and racial financial segregation, are just cute side notes, and that her comment was just a cutesy thing to point out, by the fact that she just laughed about it. Back when it happened I didn’t know how to respond to that, since who the hell starts a conversation with that? I was not used to that level of crassness since I wouldn’t do that to anyone. For instance, I barely had any Chinese people were I grew up, but I am not about to other a Chinese person while laughing about it as my first convo with them. That was just pure malice. It was a very disgusting experience
These are not the kind of people who help those that they deem outsiders. They give wrong advice on purpose. Or just act irritated if you ask them anything because they don’t want to have to deal with you nor share the top with anybody. Besides, these are not the kind of people that I would want to learn from anyway. And even if I wanted to, they are pretty good at gatekeeping knowledge and opportunities.
