5·6 days agoYeah. Worf Worf and his brother Alexander. Gold Worf and Silver Worf. No one remembers Alexander. Worf Worf even named his first born after his brother. No one remembers him either. All live in Worf Worf’s shadow.

10·16 days agoYou really want pixels indecipherable to the human eye on a format that your eyes can even take advantage of? Baffling.
I have this phone and it’s the best phone I’ve ever used. The previous generation had 4K resolution and it turned out no one could tell the difference and the panels are way higher power usage. The battery that used to power the 4k now lasts for literally 3 days of constant powered on, full use. It’s the longest lasting battery in a phone in the world. No phone lasts longer without a charge.
So many other features have exceeded my expectations. I no longer carry a 3rd party DAC to use for the AUX cord headphones. It sounds incredible and STILL USES AUX. In this era of forced Bluetooth headphones it’s a god damn unicorn.
You’re mad about specs that are absolutely meaningless in reality.

TenForward: Where Every Vulcan Knows Your Name@lemmy.world•The Drumhead, what a prescient episode
10·19 days agoThe Kelvin timeline is a weak addition to the franchise and had no promise outside of nostalgia fan service. Trek holds so much promise for untold stories - why reuse characters and try to tell the same stories?
Paramount has made many recent poor choices but focusing on the good Trek is not one of them.

Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL there's a hotel room designed to look like Goodnight MoonEnglish
7·21 days agoImagine being a kid in a family that stays in this room. Your mom tells you “bedtime” and you go lay in bed as she gets a green book to read before bed. Each page she reads she points to the page and something in the room that matches. As sleep pushes against your eyelids the realization that the book and room are the same. Exactly the same. And you fall asleep in the story. (Or are jolted awake with the realization that reality might be a lie or deliberately decorated, depending on what kind of kid you are).

Cooking @lemmy.world•What's an unusual ingredient, spice, or food item that you can't live without?
71·23 days agoLemon pepper. It’s surprising what a little sweet kick can do for food. My personal favorite is to put lemon pepper on cream cheese on a bagel.

Science Memes@mander.xyz•The heat... I mean the cold... well, it’s palpable!English
127·25 days agoFahrenheit is vibe temperature. It just feels good use bigger numbers to describe being very hot. “It’s 30 degrees outside” sounds hot but “it’s 100 degrees outside” is more expressive, like built in exaggeration. That could be why it is preferred by Americans.

23·27 days agoI have 2 veterinarians in the family and both sold their practices to private investors. These private companies are buying up pet services as it’s one of the last places people pay medical bills without insurance. Pet insurance is also skyrocketing in popularity.
Hedge funds took our pets and created a lucrative industry exploiting our human need to care for others. Monetizing love is the most evil thing I can imagine and it is now a multi-billion dollar market.
