I’d rather spend one hour on my phone before bed than three trying and failing to get my brain to shut up ¯\(ツ)/¯
I’ll write something here later probably. In the meantime, hi to whoever’s reading this I hope you get a chance to enjoy something kind today :)

Imagine your cat was big enough to rip your arm off at playtime. That’s why.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•I'm new to lemmy, came from reddit. What's the lemmy etiquette like? How different is it from reddiqutte?English
38·7 days agoBeans, how not to poop for 5 days, ed Sheeran, and I use arch btw? I’m sure I missed a bunch, too.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Americans of Lemmy, what are your thanksgiving family traditions?English
8·17 days agoMy traditions revolve more around what’s cooked, rather than what’s done. Never really had a big to-do when it came to Thanksgiving, to be honest.
Watch the parade, make the favorite dishes, and enjoy the leftovers for a week. The Black Friday leftover sandwich is the best, naturally.

That’s wild, I’m sorry you gotta deal with that.
Survival skills + demonstrated empathy/care with other living beings are positives for any person. Hopefully you find someone who appreciates that. /gen
Plant growing is gendered now?
All the cishet men I’ve known who have had gardens grew all kinds of stuff, from fruits and vegetables to culinary herbs and flowers.
Maybe I’m in a bubble but damn I feel sorry for the dudes in the OP.

Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL Social Pain (rejection) and physical pain overlap parts of the same neural pain pathway, and acetaminophen (paracetamol) alleviate social pain. Proof of social pain hurts as much as physical painEnglish
91·27 days agoTaking pain meds every day because you’re in otherwise unmanageable pain is not the same as taking meds every day for the high*.
“Abusing Tylenol” isn’t a thing. There are no highs off of it, even. The problem is the cause of the pain, not the treatment.
*High != bad, and addiction isn’t a personal failure either.
Even better when it’s a straightforward text post :’) genuine heroes.

8·1 month agoIt’s only over if it’s over in your heart.
Add cobwebs and skull/bat ornaments to your Yuletide tree, if that’s something you celebrate.
Wear your costume on Christmas, blast Spooky Scary Skeletons through December and keep the Halloween feeling alive as long as brings you joy. 🖤🧡

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•[SOLVED] I will pay you $20 to set up modded skyrim for meEnglish
3·2 months agoOh god I’m sorry modding on Linux is painful. I did it some years ago but it’s been a minute - my best guess would be to use LOOT (Load Order Optimization Tool) since that spits out very specific package/dependency issues in text form.
Hopefully you can get it sorted, Godspeed in the meantime. /gen

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What’s something you own that has truly paid for itself?English
2·2 months agoI appreciate it lol, I’m very careful with my hearing and actually use them as ear protection at concerts and sports events as well!

261·2 months agoMy noise cancelling headphones.
Bose QC35s and I’ve worn them until the ear cups basically fell off, then replaced those for ~$20USD and am still getting daily use out of them.
They have made public life actually livable and music is fantastic with them, plus noisy roommates are no longer as upsetting to be around, lol.
I love GIMP for what it’s done for the community but I can make a circle in Krita.
I just started Cryptmaster today and it’s even better than I was anticipating!
It’s charming, wryly funny, and the art style is incredible. It’s as close to a lighthearted D&D session in tone I’ve experienced and I adore it.
Got it in a pick-your-own bundle alongside Meg’s Monster which I’ve yet to play but still excited! Haven’t regretted it yet.

Originally? To play with image AI models when they first came out.
Then I got that taste of freedom and Windows felt icky. Haven’t touched that side of my dual boot for non-work purposes in years. Even for work it’s a last resort.

Video Games@piefed.social•The problem with self-identified “gamers” is that they don’t much like games.English
2·3 months agoThe bside gaming comm is a pretty nice break from this, as is patientgamers.
I don’t call myself a “gamer” even though it’s my primary hobby and has been since early childhood. I play games because I enjoy playing games.
The terminally online noise is hard to sift through but there are some smaller circles of sane people - you just have to find them.

I speak zero Russian but would love to know what “western communism” entails in the mind of a Russian person who holds these opinions. Alas.
